The game recommends I lower the gamma so the right square is not visible anymore, and that puts me at 1.5. The thing is it seems a little too bright. Im going to make it a bit darker, and I was wondering, what gamma settings are you guys running it at?

the reason the setting is there is because it is subjective and there are many varibles involved and adjusting the gamma is a quick effective way to compensate.
the rule here is to "make it right for you" let your eyes be the judge because other peoples' experience can't really offer you much help unless they have an identical set-up to you and are sitting in the same environment...

Yeah you're right. I already changed it to a much more atmospheric level of light / dark, was just wondering if the ingame "test" was a bit off.

The test isn't off, thats just how they intend on you playing the game. However, as long as the gamma doesn't make dark areas see-able, or wash out colors you are probably fine.

Wasn't off for me. It recommended 0.9 for me, which actually seemed a little too dark. More creepy that way though I suppose. :)

It was way too bright for me. It was like I was outside at high noon during a cloudless summer day. It might have something to do with graphics settings. HDR and such.

the game doesn't look all that great especially on my cheap TN lcd. I get a little dithering and color banding even with the gamma setting really low. also the backlight bleeding on my lcd makes areas crush and also give a bluish look instead of black. it looks better on my crt but there is still some dithering and color banding there too.

Took it way up because I was simply having too much trouble seeing anything but will have to bring it down some as now it hard sometimes to see the dark areas where it's dangerous to go.
