View Full Version : It seems that ATI cards have less trouble running this game.
From what I've noticed, people with nVidia GTX cards get lower FPS, while people with higher-end ATI cards have little or no trouble. I have a 5850, and 4GB ddr3 ram, and an AMD 965 and get a constant 50+ fps, while I've seen a guy with a GTX 480, 6GB DDR3 ram, and an i7 got around 20 FPS.
I would like to compile a list of cards and how they run for you. Provide input please. :)
SLI/Crossfire not supported?
Cards with no problems (unless otherwise noted):
GTX 280
ATI 5850
GeForce 8800 GTX
ATI 4870
ATI 4650 ~ Reported lighting issues.
ATI 4890
GeForce 240m GT
GTX 470
ATI 5870
GeForce 240 GT
GeForce 7950 GT
ATI 5970
GTX 260 ~ Occasional crawling
GTX 480 ~ Reported big frame drops running in SLI mode.
GTX 275
ATI 3850
GTX 260M
ATI 4800
GTX 460
ATI 5650
ATI 5770
GTS 250
ATI x---- (ex: x1900) ~ Reported crawling with this series
ATI HD 2600
GTX 285 ~ Reported problems running the game in fullscreen
ATI 4870 X2
GeForce 9800 GTX+ (SLI)
ATI 5830
ATI 5750
ATI 3650 ~ Reported screen flipping?
ATI 3870
From what I've gathered, the SSAO samples can really drag your system on a lot of different machines, if you're having problems I'd turn that down. Also, the game is resolution-sensitive, more-so than usual on games.

Has anyone else tested Crossfire? As far as I can tell, it's not supported.
I tested briefly using FRAPS and disabling/renabling Catalyst AI. No change. Pity. Hope there's an update to ATI Crossfire profiles soon. Could definitely use my second 5770's horsepower in there.

GTX480 in SLI running nvidia surround 3x1920x1080. Game is unplayable. Strangely, lower settings = lower FPS. Sitting on the menu it will stay steady at 30fps then out of nowhere drop to 16fps - without doing anything at all, not even moving the mouse!
On 1 monitor game is really laggy also, but not quite as bad. Still not playable.
This game does not look nearly good enough to be beating up these cards
I don't think it likes the SLI at all.

I'm not trolling, neither did I bash either nVidia, or ATI. I did not even suggest one being better than the other. I was merely sharing an observation about in-game performance. Since different cards perform differently in different games, this observation naturally has no impact on nVidia or ATI as they are seen. I think you are trolling.
On another note, I have updated the list with the information given, please anyone else want to share what card they are using and how it's performing for them? I don't care if you already see your card in the list!

Sadly, those of us with ATI's x**** series are screwed (x1900 myself), contrary to the OP. All we get (at best) is a 20-second-per-frame slideshow unless we turn off Imagetrails. And even then, we can't open any menus or bam, lockup. Bleh.

Your problem is screen tearing this happens sometimes when the Frame Rates become uneven and too high.
To stop this happening turn Vsync on it will restrict your frame rates to 60 and stop screen tearing.
List has been updated. Please continue supplying data for this list! What card do you have and how does it run the game for you?

Had tearing also, I had to live with the tearing though as enabling VSync made the game extremely jerky on a 5850.
Vsync off and it runs just dandy with everything cranked up though.

Strange i tend to run all my games with Vsync on and i'm usually always running at 60FPS.
Although i am running a HD5870 the difference in a HD 5850 and HD 5870 is slim to nill almost. Make sure your not running anymore than 4 Samples of SSAO and you should run fine.
LordArchantos
09-10-2010, 02:37 AM
HD4870 here w/ Cat 10.8, enabling vsync causes extreme jerkiness on my system as well. Also Edge smoothing causes the frame rate to drop quite clearly when there's water, in other areas it's fine.
So Edge smooth and vsync disabled, SSAO on medium and 16 samples, everything else maxed. Smooth sailing.
I've tried disabling SSAO and enabling vsync and edge smooth (one at a time and both together), but there's no difference. Vsync still causes jerkyness, and edge smoothing w/ water still drops FPS clearly.
Also, if I switch SSAO to high res with samples between 4 and 16, it's still smooth generally, but getting really close to a surface (wall, floor, etc.) or a light source causes a sharp drop in FPS while looking at it. I back up a step and it's fine.

I run the game without any problems (4890) but I had an inventory bug. Don't know if that's related to the type / brand of card though.
Small spoiler:
It was the hand drill, I had one part equipped and tried to assemble it. Made the game crash every time. When not equipped assembling worked..
