View Full Version : Mouse friendly?

I usually have strong doubts about the gameplay of games designed for consoles, anyone knows how mouse-friendly this will be?
And anyone knows about the quality of the port? Last time I bought a console port it was Dead Space, and I will always remember it as the worst PC port ever (ok surely there's worse). It wouldn't even work out of the box with the numpad without installing glovepie. And it was kinda low-res, & no antialiasing.. a real scam. Add to that horrible motion smoothing, really bad camera.. But having owned an XBOX, I know that most games were like this on consoles.

Edit: watching more gameplay movies, there seems to be way too many console-like short in-game cinematic events happening. I just wish there was a game with L4D's gameplay & the crazy amount of content of this game.

You sound like you want a FPS. This isn't it nor would anyone who'd played the original want it to be.

There is no way of knowing how well it will play with a mouse. But most will use a gamepad as this type of game plays better with one. And don't judge a port of one game and compare it to another that was made by a completely different company. Capcom's ports over the last few years have been good. And although this is not directly made by them i'm sure it will be good.

I'm ok for a good TPS that's tailored for a PC & mouse. I know it's doable, Max Payne 1 & 2 were very playable on a PC. But that's the only example I can come up with, sadly.
For once the guy isn't eating half of the screen though, that's a good sign.

Capcom's ports over the last few years have been good.

I remember having tried Lost Planet a couple of years ago. Game was pretty slow (& I had a geforce 7800 or 8800 I believe at that time), motion was console-smoothed crap, that was for the first 5 min until it crashed.
And I'm not anti Capcom at all, they were big in the era of arcade beat em all.

I think that devs should be honnest and just say "this is a console game" or "this is a PC game". It's not just the gameplay, there are other features that PC users take for granted, like ability to save at any time, not at save points or whatever.
I don't know, it seems like the #1 goal of a console game is to have the best & most in-your-face trailers.

I thought Lost Planet was a pretty good port. I never had any problems with it and i bought it on release day. Resident Evil 5 is another good port.

But because it plays better with a pad doesn't mean it can't be played well with mouse/kb but i find pretty much anything that isn't a fps usually does play better with a pad.
And the save system for the original DR was kinda unique as it was part of the game. It wouldn't of worked so well if you could save anywhere. Alot of people didn't like it but i thought it worked well, and certainly didn't lessen my enjoyment of the game.

Before you cry console port at least wait untill release and read some reviews or visit the forum for some views. No one knows what it will be like on PC yet.

but isn't this game kind of a sandbox? It looks like there's some freedom, the kind of game that you can(?) play without caring about the scenario? I know I liked the GTA3 port on PC, even if it was really slow, it was still GTA, a big sandbox, with objectives that I never cared about. The console gameplay was ok in cars btw, not really when walking but it was still enjoyable.

I won't trust reviews anymore, I bought Dead Space based on reviews.. Possibly the reviewers didn't review the PC version at all & just did a copy/paste of the console review. I saw no review mentioning the broken controls.
The sad thing is that no one ever clears this up, as it was a taboo, as if console & PC games were the same. They're not, and that's no problem, to each his own & some people like them (& I do understand the appeal, there's one XBOX Capcom game I kinda like, Onimusha, but I'm certainly not missing its difficulty & all the frustration while playing the same stuff over & over).
But not mentioning this only brings suspicion, for example I didn't buy Gears of War because it looked like a console game. I don't even trust those who used to make PC games.

This game like the first has a time limit. It's part of the story. Which means although it is a freeroam game it's not in the same vein as GTA. You have to keep moving (and for good reason). Don't think that means you can't explore or it feels as you're being rushed. It moves at a good pace. And once the main game is over with there is a freeplay at your own pace, in a way. It's hard to explain as Dear Rising was kinda unique in the way it played.
DR is a big game with loads to do. And looking at DR2's maps it seems it will be much bigger.
There is a leveling system also, the first game went upto level 50. But at any time you could start a new game with your saved char, carrying your level, earned xp, cash and new moves over to a new game.

And if it's anything like the original here will be huge amounts of unlockables and stuff to find.

And yea some reviews of games are not so good, but if you read a few you can get the general opinion, plus looking at forums, like i said, for views from your average gamer.
Rwad some reviews of the original DR and you'll get a good account of what to expect in DR2.

Even if the mouse support is horrid, just always have a wired 360/ps3 controller and if the game doesn't support, use joy2key

i NEVER use a controller, but i was forced to use one for Halo 2 vista, that's about it, but that game was easily the worst port ever to exist, next to red faction guerrilla
