I was considering making this a complete new version (Super Laser Racer 2) but it will probably be a free update. I'm hoping that current players will try the new version then tell all their friends to go and buy it because it is awesome! :D

Multiplayer is the last major hurdle. Testing will begin soon, so stay tuned for more information.

Groovy!!!! :D
Excellent news. I'll try the new version for sure siread.

I would indeed not like it to be a brand new V2 because then I would fell like I can trash the first one, which would make me sad.
However I wouldn't mind at all buying it as a DLC that would upgrade the existing game. Good work deserves rewards. ;)

Thanks for supporting this great game.

While all this sounds excellent...

I know this probably isn't a popular opinion, but I think making it a free update is a silly idea. You're cheapening your own work unnecessarily - it was only a £2.99 title to begin with, and I'm sure a lot of existing owners would pay for a sequel (or DLC for extra tracks).

I agree (although I would not said silly but too generous).
As the core gameplay and look&feel of the game will not change, going to a full brand new V2 would be a bad move.

I would rather see something like updating the SLR available on Steam store to include all that new content, and offering a DLC to upgrade existing users (that could/would/should(?;)) be charged for a low price).

From an indie dev, I can easily accept reasonable DLC and clearly understand to need to get some money from hard work. No shame here.
Plus based on the changes list, it's not a small update, we'll have lots of new musics tracks, plus many cool stuff.

Anyway, if it's free, I'll take it, and if it's not free, I'll buy it!

Sounds good :D Can't wait for it.

I agree with above, a whole new game is not a very good idea, however neither is making it completely free. I think you deserve to make it at least purchasable DLC.

Ooh! That's fantastic news! Looking forward to multiplayer. Will there be an option to zoom in/out while editing tracks?

Thank you for working on updates! Super Laser Racer is a small indie game but one i actually quite liked, online play will make the game more appealing so hopefully it will lead to more sales.

Nice if it was free tbh.
But still if you put the dlc up for £1 or less i'm sure ppl would buy it.
at least it's some income for you for the work you put in.

I bought this game for cheap during one of the Steam sales in the past year. I started playing it recently and am loving it.

Major props for your game and props to you for supporting your product!

Just another guy chiming in to thank you for being so awesomely generous. Didn't expect the game to see any updates at all, let alone one this extensive.

EDIT: this just occurred to me. Why not allow people to submit their custom made tracks to you, and you add the best ones as "official" tracks to the game (with credit, of course)? If you've got an involved fanbase, you might as well capitalize on it to make your product even better.

Another thank you. I'll be suggesting this to all my friends on Steam now and probably buying it for a few for Xmas. Any chance of some kind of multi-pack deal for it to push some extra sales?

siread
12-09-2010, 11:22 AM
If people want to submit tracks then you can do so via the New Star Games forum in the Laser Mods section:
http://www.newstargames.com/newstarforum/forumdisplay.php?f=107

I will compile the best ones and put them in a future update. :)

I will ask Valve about a "multipack" deal.

You should also ask Valve to add the "Multiplayer" icon to the Steam store page!
