my fps are extreeeeemly low. i just bought it.
and its definitely antialising causing it. since when i put it on normal i have 10 fps when i put it on high 3 fps
first my specs before you tell me to buy a better grafic cardand they should easy reach 20-30 fps i think
since my grafic card is still around rank 4
i have an ati radeon hd 4870x2 2gb
then 8 gb ram kingston 1333mhz
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB
Total Physical Memory 4.00 GB (shouldnt it be 8 aswell? i just noticed)
m4a79t deluxe is my motherboard
cpu:AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor, 3210 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
vista ultimate 64bit sp1(only not updated thing guess why ;>)
other drivers up to date
other games run smooth fear2 aion dragon age mafia 2 bioshok2
only crysis doesnt run as good as it should but still 20 fps on max settings
dawn of war 2 had a long time only 3 fps aswell.
then they patched it. my grafic card was even named in the patchnotes and then it worked with 30 fps.
so mayb its not on my end here aswell?
i mean i even installed some diagnosis programs like everest home smart doctor. couldnt find anything. temp of cpu is ok: 45-55 degree. vga card is ok drivers ok and so on.
and i cleaned all dust out^^
you got diagnosis tools? system scans w/e bring it on i will run them all aslong we can solve this somehow ;)
since it looks like a great game i would even play with 10 fps.. but it would be a torture somehow hehe.
not sure if this post is right here to reach the tech support? or do i need to go to the bohemia forum?

Don't have time to write up a full reply at the moment, but: Your PC is definitely more than enough to play the game on medium settings at 25+ FPS. Something is wrong for sure. Check the CPU/GPU load while in-game, and see if anything is running in the background.

i just found something interesting ;) also other sources that said it seems to be a memory leak problem
Graphical corruption with large amounts of RAM
This happens sometimes when more than 4GB is present. I'll explain in detail how to limit RAM so you can play ARMA without corruption.

gonna try it out tomorrow

gonna try it out tomorrowThat was an entirely different problem - sorry, but the overflow issue was fixed a couple of patches ago. What you're running into must be something else entirely.
ArmA2's AA implementation is extremely resource intensive. I run almost all other settings on VH (VidMem on Default, PP on Low) and I still leave AA on Low. Looking at your system, you should definitely be able to get 30fps with some settings turned down. I'd definitely make a post over at the official forums as well, they're quite a bit more active.
It would really help to know what your other settings are. Incidentally, what version of the Catalyst drivers are you running? I know more than a few people were having problems with 10.8 and crossfire (the 4870x2 shares some of the glitches associated with crossfire due to having 2 on board GPUs).
edit: Oh, do you have ArmA2, Operation Arrowhead, or both?

i have arma 2 arrowhead and the dlc^^
catalist 10.9
and i installed the crossfire support thing from ati aswell just in case ;>
well anti alising on low gives me 25 fps for the first missions.
so i thought screw aa i play without it.
but on the third mission always when i turn around it drops to 0 or 2 fps even on low anti alising?
as soon it loaded the area i wanna look at and aslong i dont turn around it goes on.
so ya when you turn around it mostly uses ram to diplay all the stuff... or am i mistaken?
well the other settings i have on very high.
my fps doesnt change when i lower them i tried. didnt help at all.
what i noticed when i put visibility on 10k i can only put terrain detail on medium while this guy here http://www.overclock.net/pc-games/532520-sanders54s-arma-2-optimization-how-force.html
still has it on high.

so for now i try the ram thing laters i try
DISCLAIMER: This is the OLD method. Use on older driver then 9.7. This fix oosts FPS on HD 4870 and HD 4870 X2 configurations most (CF + single) Also works a bit for HD 3K series, and little to no effect on HD 2K
For those who bought ArmA 2 at Steam:
1. Right click ArmA 2 in Steam
2. Go to properties
3. Press "Set Launch options"
4. Add the following parameters:
Code:
-winxp -maxmem=2047 -cpuCount=4 -nosplash
tough i guess i need to downgrade my ati drivers for it but first i try it on newer ones anyway ;>

ok
some updates
-winxp -maxmem=2047 -cpuCount=4 -nosplash
didnt help
tough there is one thing it actually did help
when i start the game normally make a print screen and paste it into paint its all black
when i use
-winxp -maxmem=2047 -cpuCount=4 -nosplash
i can do screen shots ;) strange huh? gonna upload my settings how it looks when it goes down to 0 fps and how it looks when i dont move^^

making screen shots was a good idea
check this out ingame i only see the picture below. when i make a screen its 2 pictures overlayed and one the one i dont see has 35 fps wth?
http://img541.imageshack.us/img541/5953/arma2fps.jpg (http://img541.imageshack.us/i/arma2fps.jpg/)
here an normal screen shot that worked
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/8191/arma2settings2.jpg (http://img215.imageshack.us/i/arma2settings2.jpg/)
after tabbing it often looks like this Oo but only for a moment then it renders bit by bit
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7851/arma2fail.jpg (http://img155.imageshack.us/i/arma2fail.jpg/)
found something interesting http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/ATICatalyst109Hotfix.aspx gonna try it

the ati hotfix didnt help for me -.- tough i feel like average fps is higher 20 inside buildings 12 outside when i turn around still instant drop to 0 tough standing picture for some time...unplayable when you move around a corner ur just dead lol
hmm should i fuse arma2 with oah? or does it only give me more trouble?^^

Why not just disable AA in the mean time? At least you will be able to play it normally on high settings then.
tomoee
09-17-2010, 06:32 AM
able to play doesnt hit the nail
since i am only able to play aslong i dont turn around with AA off
and a shooter where you cant turn around is unplayable
and it doesnt matter what happens in front off me it will stay at 10 fps but whenever i turn around (even inside houses in corners) it drops to 0 fps like 80% of the times i turn around.
tough ya until mission red something i could turn around and only got 1 fps drop on the whole 3 first mission
mission 4 seems bugged
Try: Post Processing on Low, AA on disabled or low, and view distance of 4 or 5 km. PP tends to be very resource intensive (especially in OA as they added SSAO) and you just plain won't be able to run a 10km view distance with other settings on high with that system.
Also, have you made sure that the game is recognizing and using both GPUs? If you're still having texture pop in problems, try the 10.4 Catalyst drivers with the 10.9 Crossfire profiles.

tried settings on low better frames aslong i run straight but it still drops to 0 when i turn around.
both gpus? i have 4 how i do that? ;=)
well 10.4 i had before i bought arma first thing when it didnt work was to upgrade to 10.9
thx for all ideas so far but it seems not fixable by just lower settings to min.

otherwise i wouldnt bother anyway i was amazed that aa only gives me 3 fps but thats ok i mean i dont mind playing without and having 30 fps ;) and i dont mind to put other settings on lowest but if it still drops to 0 when i turn around i do mind.
That is just strange.. You've covered pretty much everything I can think of. Hope someone at the official forums can help you.
As for checking if all the cards/cores are working, get GPU-Z. It will tell you what %load each core is under while you're in game. It doesn't sound like this is your problem, but couldn't hurt to check.

roger getting gpu-z
ya kinda strange i mean when i put resolution on 1280 1200
instead 1900 it just looks ugly as hell on my screen...
has some fps more but still goes down to 0 fps
same with visibility and co

well the expansion seems to run better ;> droped never to 0 fps so far only did 2 mission but second one was kinda big area and tank but lets see
but the old missions from arma 2 still get the trouble even after fusing the 2 games

next one is while in game. follows soon
well cpu usage goes to max 40% ?
http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/10/09/19/3m9.png
but i only see gpu load 1 bar not 1 for each gpu or i just fail i guess ;)
Hmm, my bad. I just assumed it would show 2 different entries. Does the drop down menu at the bottom ('ATI Radeon HD 4870x2') have a second entry? Either way, it says crossfire is enabled so that shouldn't be the problem. Any luck at the official forums?

well some guy said that the stuttering could come from my hd aswell...
and it sounded somewhat possible since i only have 1 for the first time.
so since the addon works fine and only arma keeps stuttering i will keep it like it is for now.
and as soon i have the time for it i buy a small hd fast one for the os and switch to win 7 since i still see some vista fail behind this ;) and then i report back i guess...
