Ran fine yesterday but now doesn't run at all

It ran yesterday and I played for a few hours, then Battlefront 2 went on sale and I got it, but it wouldn't run at all, the game would start but it kept crashing every time I tried to start a level. So after looking around the forums I found that I had to go into the computers sound recording options and enable a different setting, here:

After doing that, I was able to play Battlefront 2 without any problems, but now I am having that same problem with this game. I tried resetting the recording option back to how it was before but the game still won't run at all now. It just goes to a blank screen, and the only way to get back to desktop is to log off and back on again since it doesn't let me see the task manager and no other commands seem to work.

I don't know why the recording options of the computer have anything to do with a game working or not, but I reset it back to the way it was so I'm not sure what else to try?

Well uhh, I just tried starting the game again after restarting Steam and it seems to be working fine again now, but I didn't even change any settings or anything. So I don't know what that was all about?

edit: For anyone else having the same problem, after reading about it in another thread on here, I disabled the movies with the configuration app and it doesn't happen anymore.
