Shipyard not building ships

I am in the tutorial entitled "getting ready" .. The last tutorial. It advises me to build two ships. I am not able to build any ships… The shipyard queues them up, but there is no progress bar and nothing builds. I have plenty of resources, all piled up from trying to figure this out.

I have another general question... The battles are fun, resource gathering is not... How much time do people normally spend on macro??

One more question… Is there a hotkey for changing the speed? I need the speed at slow for battles and fast for macro.

Have you built enough houses (dwellings)?

Maybe there is another trigger for it...
