The demo is called Gmod 9 ;)

Gmod is from an indie dev, not valve...

As Suomis said, Garry's Mod wasn't created by Valve. So if they gave a free copy to everyone who owns a Source game, Garry and his helpers wouldn't get anything for it.

A demo/trial would be nice, also to test if the game runs well enough on your computer without buying it first. A free weekend would be nice, but I wonder if it would be enough because there is too much to do and try in Gmod.

Because I loved every game that was created with the Source engine I just paid the 10 Euros and just tried it and love it.

In case you don't know what Gmod is I would advice to go to youtube and search for Garrysmod movies there, it will give you the best idea what you can do with Gmod.

You can always try an earlier version of Gmod. Like I said, Gmod 9 is free for everyone.

Hmm? How would create a demo G-Mod? I mean, its cheap already, and its hard to limit it without breaking it.

Creating a sepparate demo version would take lot's of time. But as a Steam only game, shouldn't it be possible for developers like Garry to create a some kind of weekpass, once per useraccount, so that players are able to play with the full version for one week and if they they not decide to buy it that it will be grayed out within Steam?

but... is the only way to buy GMod from steam store?
i havent EVER seen it in other shops.

The only legitimate place to buy it is from the steam store. There are no real "used" verions, "non steam" versions, or boxed copies. All of those are pirated versions and not legal.

Although it's a shame there is no way to buy it in stores - I feel it would have the potential to sell really well. Considering it's the 11th most popular game on Steam at this moment.

41,349 65,378 Counter-Strike
40,846 67,641 Counter-Strike: Source
40,478 69,330 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer
10,961 21,000 Football Manager 2010
9,583 14,736 Team Fortress 2
7,233 11,587 Left 4 Dead 2
4,433 7,692 Mafia II
3,868 5,668 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
3,831 6,635 Empire: Total War
3,702 6,624 Condition Zero
2,790 5,063 Garry's Mod

Heck, the Garrysmod / CSS bundle or the Garrysmod / TF2 bundle would be great to sell imho.

This used to be in the Gmod FAQ on Gmods own site:

Can I purchase Gmod retail?
No, it is only in steam.

Does this game have a demo?
Yes, it is called Gmod 9.

Gmod (http://store.steampowered.com/app/4000/)
Gmod + TF2 (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/558/)
Gmod + CSS (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/219/)

Even if the game was available in a retail shop, you would still download probably at least 1Gb's of extra mods from the web just to add more tools and maps to Garry's mod.

And in my case Gmod was really worth the 10 Euro's, because I have over 400 Titles in Steam and still played GMod for over 360 hours in total, none of the other games come even near, not even the MMORPG's I play.

So maybe the question we should ask you is are there any reasons to not buy Gmod, or do you have some unanswered questions about this game? Or are you not sure if it runs on your computer? I think lot's of people would be happy to answer your questions about Gmod if you have any.
