When I try to launch a new game (after choosing my character) I get a game-halting error:

Rend_RenderSkyHemisphere: Sky layer without a material!

This only happens when I try to play the Deathkings of the Dark Citadel WAD (HexenDD.wad). Playing the original game WAD causes no such error.

Have you tried using the 1.9.0 beta6.9 (https://sourceforge.net/projects/deng/files/Doomsday%20Engine/1.9.0-beta6.9/) version of the engine? Make sure that everything of the previous installation is cleared out, then install that one. If it fails still, just try GZDoom (http://www.osnanet.de/c.oelckers/gzdoom/index.html).
