Hi,
can someone tell me how to set a Deadzone for the Xbox 360 analouge sticks in this game?

it feels like there is no deadzone at all, i dont touch the stick and the car is slightly moving left/right by itself...

i did not have this problem in GRID or DIRT 2...

If it is in the wheel options, they are greyed out and inaccessible to me.

sounds like you need to calibrate your 360 controller from control panel>hardware>game controllers
click properties and go to settings tab and press the calibrate button and follow the on-screen instructions

nope... there is no setting for deadzone in there.
the xbox gamepads wear out when you use them a lot and the deadzone gets bigger.
some developers (even on Xbox exclusive games like Ninja Gaiden 2) dont seem to know that.

PS: i just checked in Dirt 2 i have set the Deadzone to 20% in the advanced wheel options.

F1 2010 does terrible job giving you all the options the game has. It's very consolish. But! There is an easy fix to the deadzone.

First, go to the folder you installed F1 2010. Then open 'actionmap' folder. There you'll find a file called 'Windows XInput.xml'. This is used for the 360 controller.

If you want to do a back up, do it now, and then open the file in Notepad. After entries for Acceleration, Brake and Hand Brake (eh!) you'll find configs for steering left and right, including deadzones.

I think the default value for deadzones is 0.2. If you want to increase the deadzone, try 0.3.

I actually tried it with 0.1 because I think the car is a bit too eager to turn when you want to adjust your driving line just a little bit, but then I encountered the same problem what you are having: the car is steering by itself.

Hope this helps. :P

Problem I'm having with the xbox controller is that the LS seems almost digital. Rather than the position of the stick relating to the position of the wheel/steering, if I move the stick to the left even slightly, the wheel starts turning left at a constant rate, as if I was pressing a "left" key on a keyboard. If I switch to moving the LS to the right, the steering snaps to the centre then starts moving right at a constant rate.

Anyone else getting this?

I've noticed teh same - the deadzone adjustments aren't visible for xbox pad where they are in other Codies racers.

Can you see the irony of you criticizing the game for being consolish while you play with a gamepad ?

Just saying U_U

Does it work correctly when you calibrate it in Windows?

:D I'm just saying the UI is simplified, but the PC version has more editable options under the hood. Cheers!

Yeah coz all PC gamers use their mouse and keyboard for driving games!
Frantically swiping your mouse over and over to try to get around that corner! Though I have a 5600 dpi mouse with 1000 Hz polling. Perhaps I can do 180s every time I twitch the thing?!?

Actually I use an official xbox 360 wheel. Not coz I want a 'consolish' game but simply coz I want to play the game properly!
I even try driving one handed leaning the other arm out of my imaginary car catching the breeze just like real F1 drivers do! (Can you imagine that?!?)

Me and my beautiful Logitech G25 can not understand a word of that rant.

As stupid as it sounds but i do not like wheels.
i actually prefer gamepads.

Main reason is that in my Office Chair i can't properly sit when using pedals and even though it is pretty easy to set up it is getting annoying to set up the Wheel if you just want to drive a few short laps.

Therefore Gamepad > Wheel. Cuz i'm THAT lazy ;P

Now if you have a dedicated Racing Sim Setup with apropriate Racing Chair and so forth ...then that's something else.

btw. @ Topic:

It seems when you change your settings to the Xbox Gamepad the very first time the deadzon is 0.0 after i have restarted the game the handling was perfct with the deadzone of 0.2 that is written in the .xml file.

So uhm... i was a little to fast complaining i guess ^^
But it is good to know where to change it anyway.

It actually took me two years (and several games) to set up chair and pedals and wheel in a comfortable position.

Yes, gamepads are very comfortable. But I felt like cheating using them.

What, you can't imagine in mid-GP Alonso with his arm over the side of the car, or Button taking his helmet of and slipping some shades on or Hamilton flicking some cigarette ash over the side of his McLaren or Schumacher with a pipe?!?

Are you calling me weird?!? :D

No seriously, I use an xbox wheel or gamepads on my PC as I already own them for xbox and it saves me the large amount of money you probably spent on your wheel!:p
I don't play driving games enough to warrant that kind of price!

Anyway just try to imagine Button in his shades checking out the girls as he drives past. Makes me laugh.
Failing that, check out the 'Mouse as a steering wheel' topic in these forums where someone is truly considering trying to control an F1 car with a mouse!
