Cannot get Games for Windows Live update

Every time I start the game, it asks me to sign in to Games for Windows Live. I do, then it tells me there's an update I have to get. Every time I try to get the update, it fails. Even nicer, if I eventually give up, then the game still tries to force me to sit through the entire intro interview sequence all while telling me it won't save any of my progress with no way to exit the game. Hello, task manager, at least that's saved me some time here.

Is there some trick I don't know to downloading the update for Live?

try uninstalling GFWL, and donwloading the latest version of the website: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98609

Apparently your getting this error due to your anti virus/firewall

Somehow it never occurred to me that it wasn't something integrated directly into the game and I could update it outside the game. Thanks!
