View Full Version : Are enemies really tough or do i just suck?

it's unbelievable how much punishment all enemies in this game can take. i mean look at zombies - you can instantly kill them with the grab button, but you'll spend much more time just smashing them with your weapons. it can get tedious when the enemies are weak, and frustrating when they are strong. hopefully the weapon upgrades will take care of that in the future

Yeah I amm having my first playthrough on easy and i barely survived the first 2 minibosses (the flame zombie and the one with burning fists). It is getting easier as I am getting used to the fighting (and dashing), but there is still moments in the red.

No, I'm not going to say you suck ... but I'm not very good at this type of game, and I haven't died yet. Of coarse I'm only a couple hours into it. I guess it might kick my butt a bit later... oh, and I'm only playing on "normal". I wonder if the difficulty can be changed mid-game?

I find it too easy on apocalyptic mode. Man if you can't even do easy on this game never play God of War 3 or Ninja Gaiden for that matter.

i'm playing on normal. and i'm a God of War nerd. didn't play 3 yet, but beat 1, 2 and Chains of Olympus on highest difficulty.
it's just that in GoW enemies hit harder, but die easier. and in GoW the rolls are a necessity. dashing in Darksiders doesn't really do the job, and blocking is useless half of the time. and i wish they were separate buttons.

The trick is the dashes. Hit and dash. You can even dash out of a combo, if you have to. You can't just trade blows with the tougher ones.
However, I do agree: I wish block and dash were two different buttons.

Might be because I play with the Xbox 360 Wireless controller, but I don't have too hard a time with the enemies. My first playthrough was on Easy (like I normally play my first playthroughs) though. The trick is the dashing out of an attack. Basically always dash back or to the right (it seems). After you dash away, dash forwards and hit the attack button again to close in and deal damage, do a few combos and dash away again. Repeat. Also I hardly every focused enemies, as that leaves you vulnerable. Just repeat combos and move the swings around you to whatever is close, so that you interrupt them and hit multiple targets. It's the bigger foes that you perhaps need more to focus view on. Oh, and take out any small targets around a big one if it's possible. They'll just get in the way if you start focus viewing the big guy.

well, im playing with a gamepad as well. anyway, i just killed Tiamat and she just proved my theory. they are TOUGH. but they aren't tough because they hit hard, it's just that this boss battle took me freaking 10 minutes! beating her over and over and over and over and over makes it extremely tedious.
that's one major screw up in the game. the enemies have too much HP. honestly, i would have chosen to have stronger enemies with less health. i get tired of killing them -_-

Sorry that was a reply to gruntmaster1.
I agree that guard and dash should be different controls though.

dashing in Darksiders doesn't really do the job
Dashing is key to beating tough enemies

Yes this is correct.

If you're in the middle of several enemies, try focusing on one and using an uppercut combo.
It's good damage and it gets you off of the ground so you'll avoid the attacks of the rest.

I used to do this quite a bit but then I started getting hit while in the air by taller enemies and when crowded by them. Had to change my strategy slightly.

as i expected, upgrading weapons pretty much changed everything. it's not that hard now. not easy either, but at least balanced.

Also in regards to bosses, all of them have 3 things you need to repeat before doing a finishing move. It's fairly simple fights once you know what you are supposed to do :) I found each and every one of them enjoyable as well.

I'm playing with an xbox360 gamepad and I wish there was a way to switch controls on the fly. Would have made the Tiamat battle so much easier as aiming with the gamepad sucks.

i dunno if its because i constantly find myself playing Batman:AA, but i wanted SO badly for dodge to be double tapping the jump button (A) instead of the block button-- i had to restart so many fights from mashing the jump button when i intended to dash >_<

Ah, that was tough to do with a gamepad. Just finished that fight a few minutes ago. The good thing is that there were only two rounds of aiming. The rest was a piece of cake.

your garbage
i went through this game on my very first try on apocalyptic difficulty and i swear 80% of the game can be done on 1 bar.
L2Dash, every single enemy has a big "OMG IM GOING TO HIT YOU NOW" stance, Dodge it
the flat blobs that explode, dash left and right to completely avoid them, the minotaur guys that chargish, dash backwards.
if everything in the game was avoidable, its completely possible to do the game without actually getting hit, im positive on it. (the only one i cant figure out how to dodge is the SPOILERS, second encounter of the big guy you fight in the beginning, where he puts his hammer on the ground and flicks it across the arena) if i knew how to dodge that move, i would totally make a lets play of either a "untouchable" or "one bar" playthrough.
Its jarate ♥♥♥♥ing easy.
OH AND ABUSE THE ♥♥♥♥ OUT OF THE EXECUTION GRAB THING, IT STOPS ENEMIES FROM ATTACKING YOU SO IF YOU TIME IT DURING A SWING THE MONSTER WILL CANCEL THE SWING.

If you're dying on easy, then that's definitely you and not the game. I'm half way through the game on apocalyptic and nothing is at all overly difficult. Dashing is key.

playing the second time on apocalyptic, without Abyssal Armor. it's ten times easier than the first time i played on normal. guess i didn't get into the combat mechanics fast enough the first time. but the problems i had were mostly with the big guys like the huge fat burning zombies or armored undead which cannot be stunned until their armor is broken.
dashing is the key, true. but you have to do too much of it. many enemies give you not much time to attack them before they hit you hard unless you dash away, and i usually find offense to be the best defense. not always the case with Darksiders

I dunno, as soon as I got Counter, I finally had a reason to block incoming attacks...
Just make sure you have tornado combo and power strike, those two do some nice surround damage and a good powerstrike gives you a breather. Counter is actually more useful to just keep up the combo`s when you get attacked.

One thing I found to be VERY surprisingly powerful, and it helps so damn much later on is the Tremor Smash (jump and hold right click). I never knew how damn powerful it was until I was leveling it up to max. And I think I found a slight trick to it as well - if you let go of right click immediately after it glows with power, it seems to do a ton more damage. Put it this way, with War's Glory, with lvl 3 of Tremor Smash, and the Gauntlet at lvl 3 (still was leveling it), I could easily 4-shot the huge dudes that run at you dragging their big axe. No other hit in the game seems capable of doing so, except Chaoseater's Dragon Breath attack, but that takes several hits leading up to that point.
As much as I hated the Tremor Gauntlet up to that point, I LOVE it now. Those big blue dudes with the big hands? I was killing them without being touched at that point.
