Hey, I can't seem to make a decision whether to buy it from steam or from Atari. I know that's absurdly silly, but lately I've been buying games from other download services and it's kinda cool not having to log into steam to play a game, and then sometimes you don't want friends to know you're playing games cause they'll bug you to play something else at the time, etc.

Anyway, what would you do? And also, is there a way to launch games that I downloaded through steam without actually launching steam? I know some people are able to do that for games like Global Agenda. Can that be used for this game, too?

Nevermind, reading more on the Atari site it looks like you can only download the game within 30 days after purchase.

You don't want it from anything other than Steam anyways. SecuRom is pure, concentrated evil.

Steam.

1. No DRM except Steam.
2. Saved games are safe because of Steam Cloud
3. Exclusive costume

Need I go on.

The first thing to try for launching a game without Steam is to go into Steam's Program Files folder (or whatever it is for Macs), then finding a given game's .exe file (or whatever for Macs) in the steamapps folder, and see if it will run. VVVVVV can be run this way, though some games will start Steam regardless of this direct route.
