cannot play fullscreen

i7 on x58

I cannot load the game and play in full screen it just sits there without drawing the game. However if I change to windowed mode I can play. I have tried updating video card drivers.

Do you even hear the sound of the game coming up?

do you have catalyst control centre installed? if so uninstall it it a waste of hard drive space, caused me more problems than anything else.

right click on the game in your games library

select set launch options

type -autoconfig in the command line

I do have CCC I can run autoconfig but it still fails to load if it is not in windowed mode. Yes I can see and hear the game coming up and I can run my mouse around and hear the noise when you mouse over the menus. But it does not draw things nor can I click on the things I see.

Also I uninstalled CCC and it did nothing.

I have noticed if I start in windowed mode and then change it to full screen, I cannot see things right, but then if I alt tab out then back into the game I can see and play. But if I try to directly join a server in full screen HL2.exe crashes. very annoying. Have not been able to play much at all because of this.

WTF!!:eek: Never heard of such a problem. Could it be your game has become corrupt? I know you probably don't want to hear this but if it were me, I would reinstall DM and try again. Sorry I can't provide a better alternative!

I have reinstalled steam, my only other option seems to be a complete reformat. I can find other people with this problem but no one proposes a solutions that works for me.
