I went on the monte cristo forums and there was a thread about a slow game issue. Someone replied a memory leak problem. Someone said to go to planet view and back to your game and the memory leak should be fixed.
Can someone confirm this please ?
You don't need to restart the game....just go to the planet screen, where you choose you city to play, then return to your city, and the memory leak is gone.....for about 30 minutes-1 hour.....after, repeat at all!
It's stille annoying, but really faster than restart the whole game! http://forum.citiesxl.com/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif

not really a fix then, merely a work around.

The game doesn't support multi thread or multiple cores. The game runs on 1 core only. There's another thread on a forum somewhere that you can bring up the task manager and right click on that process and change the afinity to use all your cores. On the same thread someone else says it only works for the few first minutes only. So this needs to be tested a bit more in my opinion
Here's the post and the link about the thread "workaround"

jim 546 posted [/B]Jul-10-2010 07:13 AM"]Actually, for Windows users, there is a way to make the system select the number of cores used on startup. You change the target to load sys32 and then it loads a program with a set number of cores. Here's my example for SC4: C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "SimCity 4" /high /affinity 1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe". The first section loads sys32 and tells it to load an item called "Simcity 4" which runs on one core. The second section is the target of the Simcity 4 .exe file. I believe "affinity 0" will set the program to run on all cores.
So back to my original question and subject, if someone use that "workaround" like you said Codex0 this workaround should always work. In other words, it's faster than rebooting your system. Just go to planet view and go back to game and voila. I personally think it's a better than nothing in that case.

Most games only use one CPU. This is normal.
I have the game and I am not having problems so far.
i might take a look on this game if i got time, looks like leak is in the game's source code, thats probably why they could not fix it im guessing hmmmm.
Altho they should, even if it means they cant give out a patch, but a fully new version, it should still be done now specialy when they are on steam.
cause then they can just say "re-download the game to get the version without leaks"
(people dont need to re-buy, just re-install)
but yea, ill look into it and see if i can do something.
I think this epic release made them lose 1000 of costumers even for the future by judgeing on how manny views the "dont buy" thread have.
pitty cause the game it self is good... just got a leak problem.

I'm not the expert here but Steam didn't buy the source code. I think they only have the right to sell it on there platform. Also, they can't fix the problems cause they got no more devs to work on this game. Why they got no more dev's. Well Monte Cristo is not of this world now.
Also, most dont buy threads are idiots who don't know the solutions...and yes they are solutions. Not the perfect ones of course but none the less they are solutions. Of course the biggest problem is the memory leak but I've said the solution to that and after some test, THE SOLUTION I SAID WORKS.
