Many centuries ago, something great was created. It was a strange restless night and the swords were bloody. It was September 2005.
Wouldn't you have loved to fight and die for Rome?
Screw death and glory. I want games!
This is why you should buy this game. You'll be sending hoardes of mercenaries against Gaul light infantry, as your archers colour the sky of death with arrows forged of steel and your generals slay fleeing soldiers. They die, you don't.
You'll be the delivering death across the lands, in the most painful ways imaginable.
Rome must have been impressive back in year one and this game is not capable of simulating its architectural, social, scientific and mathematical greatness.
BUT WHO CARES! I for one bought the game to kill Gauls and those hated Britons! Screw accuracy and details, I want screams, burning bodies and destruction. I want to be feared, respected and bribed. I deserve gold, land and the biggest and most powerful army in the whole damn world.
But is RTW eye candy?
NO! But its not a dirty finger in the eye either.
It's low polygon three-dimensions during battles and hybrid during map play.
But what is the freaking game like?
The game develops on two main circumstances: Empire management and battle management.
The Empire management gives you control of your towns and cities. Giving you the possibility to recruit new army units, dispatch your current armies, manage your funds, politics and international relations through diplomats and spies. You can do all of this in your dirty underwear.
The battle management is well developed and allows you to take full control of your legions. Every battle is preceded by an interesting intro which just adds a little bit to your gameplay experience. Battles are obviously in Real Time and can involve an outstanding number of soldiers in the battlefield. Strategy in this game is important, it is not uncommon for the underdog to obtain a victory if the adversary is not cautious.
Fights over bridges are my personal favourites and may cause sexual arousal.
In conclusion, the game is not just good. It's possibly one of the greatest strategy games ever relased.
If you still don't own a copy of this masterpiece, GET IT NOW. (Discounted!)
