So they removed the original Batman: Arkham Asylum game from the store entirely and replaced it with this more expensive version ($40 instead of $30) that requires Games for Windows Live, the reason I didn't buy Bioshock 2. Am I seriously SOL because I waited? That doesn't seem right.
I know sometimes they just hide a game's page but it's still accessible by punching in the URL directly. Is that the case here, or did they totally replace it?

The 'original' version of Batman AA requires GFWL.

They totally replaced it. The only difference between the original and the GOTY version is that the GOTY version comes with the DLC pre-installed. You are not missing out on anything.

The original requires GFWL too and if you wait a little longer the GOTY will drop to $30 or lower, with the benefit of extra content. So no, you're not seriously SOL.

I bought the original Batman: Arkham Asylum on Steam last year. What version am I playing now? Do I need to pay extra to play the GOTY?

Yup. You need to pay extra to play the GOTY content.

I don't seem to recall a GFWL requirement listed on the original, although that might have just been Steam's usual tendency to leave out details on the store pages.
Well, forget it then. I'm not running Steam and its defective clone just so I can play a game.
