EDIT: just in case someone reads it (I don't think it will happen, since this post is far behind now), this is what I think, about giving the game a fair chance:

So please disregard the below.

Wow, I'm trying (really hard) to like this game... but man, it is as generic as it can be, FCOL!

This game had everything to be a rock-solid hit, IF the developers actually cared. For me it is crystal clear that they didn't give a damn -- there was no passion AT ALL in the making of this game, that's undeniable: a complete waste of a potential jaw-dropping atmosphere.

I have played before some games crowded with clones, but this is ridiculous! Three or four generic faces repeated all over ad nauseam? The Witcher, for instance, at least presented us with unique faces for the main characters. How in the nine hells am I supposed to believe in the story if even the main characters (apart of those from the previous Gothics) have generic faces??? You talk to a very important NPC, and right outside talk to an absolutely unimportant/generic one and both have the exact same face? Often the clones walk in the same room!!

BTW: this is the worst dubbing/voiceover in the history of games!! It is so bad that I find myself trying to avoid dialogues, in order not to hear that grotesque, ludicrous, ridiculous over-over-over-over excessive tones from that "projects" of voice actors -- because they are anything but that!

They wanted to rip-off all the good elements of a good open-ended RPG, like real freedom -- to go wherever you want or kill whoever you choose, fine! They wanted to oversimplify the AI? Fine! Wanted to make the NPCs impervious to whatever happens around them so you can even rob them blind right under their noses? Fine! They didn't mind implementing the worst beginning ever in a game (seriously, what was that?)? FINE!

BUT AT LEAST show some seriousness with believable voiceovers and respect our money taking your time to actually draw unique faces for the main characters!

The cheap feeling when playing is unfortunately unavoidable!

Now that it is out of my system, let me dive back in where I left off. Like I said, I'm trying hard...

Consider yourselves warned... ;)

It is a Euro RPG. None of them have good voice acting. Obviously you've never played Two Worlds if you think this has the worst voice acting of all time. The voice acting in Arcania is about on par with Gothics 1-3, so I don't know what people were expecting from a European game not localised by a AAA publisher.

Having said that, I challenge anyone not to skip Lyrca's dialogue, eh.

(ps. I'm not trying hard at all to enjoy the game. I find it quite easy to enjoy. I guess everyone's mileage may vary.)

On par with the previous Gothic? No way in hell or heaven! Seriously: how, my good man, HOW can you state that? Have you played them at all? Tell me ONE example of a overexaggerated, cartoonished, beyond ridiculous voice like the ones all over Arcania! Just one!

And as far as I think I know, I have played all "Euro RPGs" launched so far (yes, Two Worlds included -- and it sucks), even old ones like Realms of Arkania (the whole trilogy, Star Trail being one of the best RPG ever to date). My "mileage", by the way, goes back to Ultima IV (I think it was 1985, maybe 86). I'm an old-school aficionado, think I'll die playing RPGs.

That's precisely why I didn't give up on Arcania yet. Yes, I'm trying.

But the game is a nightmare... :(

I have similar RPG experience to you dating back to the mid-80's. I have indeed played all of the Gothic games. While they didn't have over-the-top voice acting (some of them were actually pretty good, tbh), they did have awkward and poorly acted VO's. With the exception of Lyrca, nothing has made me cringe so far in Arcania. Every voice in Two Worlds however makes me ♥♥♥♥ my head and screw up my face while I try to decipher what the hell they were trying to say.

Eventually I learned to love terrible voice acting. Two Worlds makes me laugh. Maybe Arcania will too.

Ever consider the problem is you? Maybe you need to take some deep breaths and consider gaming is just a form of entertainment, like a movie, and not say life or death serious?

But of course you dont, most of you hardline Hardcores dont realize your the problem.
