Ok firstly I looked on the first couple pages and didn't see a thread about this and secondly I hope you guys can answer this.
I buy all my games on Steam with the exception of the last WoW expansion.
I'm buying Black Ops at Game Stop(midnight release)
I was wondering if I buy the game at midnight for PC will I be able to play as soon as I install it, or will I have to wait all day on the 9th for Steam to unlock it.
I know the game is Steam exclusive but do you think that retail buyers will be able to play at midnight or have to wait until the afternoon of the 9th?

Anyone know if this game will be playable on PC at midnight?
Or do we have to wait all damn day for Valve to unlock it like MW2.

I don't think I've ever seen a midnight release game on Steam that uses Steamworks.
Nobody will know the answer until Steam offers pre-orders.

Even if you bought the hard copy at a store like GameStop and you install it at say, 12:30am, you still won't be able to play until Steam opens it up?

Yes, because it's a Steamworks title and thus requires activation on Steam. Developers prefer this to curb piracy before the game is officially released which is what you continue to see in growing numbers on consoles.
Why developers are choosing Steamworks for PC releases. (http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/publishingservices.php)

Thank you very much. So I guess I won't have to sit in a line for 2 hours waiting for this game since it wont be available till later in the day. Good to know. Sad, but good to know. Thanks again.
PS. I'll probably still wait in the line :P
