This is the most promising project I've come across yet. It's actively in development, they are actually making the original game instead of altering it to suit their own weird tastes, as well as working with the original files.

I haven't seen any mention of it here; thought you should know.

So what is the actual purpose of the project, to make it run without dosbox?

I mean, the graphics aren't changed at all. I don't even see options for higher resolutions....

Why not just play it in Dosbox?

The original game is buggy, and clunky at best on a modern system. The author's intent is to first recreate a faithful version, fixing bugs or flaws such as the 80-item limit, then look into modernising it in ways such as resolution.

Once you have source-code to work from, you can do whatever the heck you want with it. (Or someone can do it for you :D)

UFO Extender is an awesome project, but it's not particularly stable, for me at least. Kind of disappointing to have inescapable crashes eight months in.
