Use Playclaw instead, you get the choice of compression which greatly reduces the amount of HDD space the vids use with little quality loss and the choice of how many cores its allowed to use.

I two drives, one for the OS and the other for the game installations. Do you mean a third drive? cuz I presently have Fraps set to save on the same drive as the game installations.

This is why client side demo recording is needed like whats available in all source engine games.

Lag is best reduced when you record to a different hdd to the game
Also what is your screen resolution?

Stutter and freezing is caused by your HDD not being able to keep up with the gigabytes worth of data being crunched.

If you're going to record at resolutions beyond 1280x1024 @ full reso / 60FPS, you NEED to record on another physical hard drive, not where the game is installed to.

If you set your record FPS to 60 (or some other ridiculously high number), and you only record at <30FPS, then it means your CPU isn't keeping up.

Generally your videos should be recorded at 30 - 45FPS.
