View Full Version : Two Problems I need Assistance With...

I purchased the Race 07 Bundle and GTR Evolution via Steam this weekend. Everything installed and runs fine at max. settings on my system, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, with the exception of these two minor problems:

1) I am unable to register through the "Competition Registration" function. The window comes up fine, connects to the competition system fine, checks the user name fine, and starts the authentification process when the register button is clicked. This process almost finishes, then I get the message, "Steam Failed. Steam Validation Stalled." Retrying several times gives the same failure and message. I also get the same message in any of the games when I go into the world leaderboard ("Authenticating" followed by the above failure message). Multiplayer, however, connects and works fine. As I did a search of all forum pages here first before posting, I see a couple posts possibly related to this problem asking if the servers for the above are down. Hopefully that's the case - Is anyone having problems connecting right now to the world leaderboard, or is the problem on my end?

Edit: Problem #1 solved - see post #7 below for solution.

2) Awaiting delivery of a Logitech G27, I am currently using an Xbox 360 controller for Windows. It is recognized, works fine, and there was no problem creating a custom profile as required for force feedback, but I get no force feedback at all. There are no other controllers connected, except the keyboard and mouse, and I have tried reversing the settings, etc. As the 360 controller is recognized and listed in all of the Race games, I assume force feedback should work. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello !

1) is it still not working? I have checked the server status, and it is working. I have no other report about this.

2) I'm not sure if FFB works with the 360 controller. Are the drivers up to date?

Hi J-F. Thanks for your response to this, I appreciate it.

1) I tried to register several times again, and I still get the same Steam failure message. As it shows as connecting to a server for user name availability, etc., it looks like it's on my end after all. I'll play with some settings a bit more.

2) Yes, all my drivers are up to date.

These are definitely not major problems to me. My main question was whether or not all of the servers were up, and you have answered that. I'll get it sorted out eventually. The controller problem won't matter once the Logitech G27 arrives. Thanks again J-F, you're great!

The leaderboards are still up and running. There should be no problem with hot lapping on the time trials leaderboards servers.

But they do need Steam to be logged in in order to work. (Authentification)

And that might be your issue. Verify that Steam is not in offline mode, and maybe contact Steam support about this.

Thanks J-F. I'm definitely in the online mode with Steam, and the error does say it's a Steam authentification error. I'll make a ticket with Steam support as you suggest. I'll let you know what caused this as soon as I, or Steam, have the solution. Thanks again!

Ok.

About the 360 controller, I've just checked with one, and the default setting is "FFB OFF" and everything at 0%.

I've tried to turn it on, but had no FFB.

I suppose there's a reason why it doesn't have any FFB, but I'm not aware of it.

Well, I'm into the wall so frequently and so hard, it's probably good in my case that it's off for now. :p

Seriously though, I appreciate all of your work on this for me. A very good example, I think, of just how great SimBin's customer service and support is. #1 in my book J-F. Thanks!

J-F, I found the solution to problem #1, the Competition Registration error. It was definitely a Steam problem. Simply renaming the ClientRegistry.blob file to ClientRegistryOld.blob, as Steam suggests as a general fix to try, restarting Steam and letting it regenerate the file, worked perfectly. I was able to complete the registration process, all the games are running fine, and all show the registration as completed. Thanks again for your help on this.
