What are you trying to run?
a multitude of things. a few games, old programs i have on some floppies, ect.
the installers are 16 bit so you cant run them on a 64 bit OS

That would depend if the os he if using has support for that. But in other words your right. 16 bit is old and you probably won't be able to run it unless there was some kind of update for the game to run on 32 bit or 64 bit but judging by how old the application is you won't find an update any where

Even 32-bit apps don't run natively on Win64 systems. Microsoft had to make a compatiblity layer called WoW64. WoW64 doesn't include support for 16-bit apps--only 32-bit.
Short answer: You can't without a VM or other third party emulator.

Vmware (http://www.vmware.com/) is the way to go, takes seconds to start up. Of course you need a copy of XP or other compatible OS too.

You have four choices:
Dosbox (http://www.dosbox.com/)
Dual boot
Some VM solution
XP mode (maybe)

DosBox work's well with Doom IMO.
Duel Boot, XP may be your best bet if DosBox wont work..
iirc anything less than XP wont even work an a multicore CPU..
Dame wish I still had my old 486DX4 100, cloudnine Graphics and Dual voodooII's, It rocked DOS games
hahahehe

Yeah it will. In your bios you will have a setting, mine is called CPU Microcode but it may vary.
Changing this allows you to boot legacy operating systems.
Anyway, i think that XP Mode is the easiest way. Its free as long as you own Win 7 Pro, COrp or Ultimate and as well as providing you with XP SP3 it also installs a fully functioning copy of MS Virtual PC which allows you to install any other OS you want.

Yeah that may be so but what a pain in the ♥♥♥, in and out of bios changing setting's.. Dual boot would be a better option IMO.
hahahehe

Yeah, i totally agree. Tho you could setup two different bios profiles, one for new os and one for legacy os, but still a pain in the ♥♥♥ compared to dual boot :D

I use Windows Virtual PC 2007 to run a Windows 98 WM. Runs my old games great.
Or you could dual boot. That is probably the easiest solution.

XP mode is VM.
I know that, but there are other VM solutions that may work better and the OS version wasn't specified. I was just trying to provide a free MS solution.
