View Full Version : Stuck at Menu Screen

I'm stuck at the Main Menu Screen, because it doesnt react to any input from the keyboard or the mouse. I don't even have a mouse cursor. The Game is still playing Music, and i can still enter the Steam overlay with shift+tab, but nothing else. And i can only close the Game with the Task Manager.
I already tried reinstalling everything from the redist folder. I also redownloaded the Game and I tried running it in windowed mode.
But still the same Problem.

Hi, just before I submit this does the Main Menu look normal i.e. Everything is as it should be, nothing is overlapping or missing [Reference: http://i.imgur.com/XcdFI.png?7668]

Sigh this is an old bug,
Ill update the system with your files but in the mean time I suggest making sure all your drivers, software are up to date (directx, vc++, graphics card, windows).

I suggest making sure all your drivers, software are up to date (directx, vc++, graphics card, windows).
windows update always on, did an independent search right now, even looked into optional updates, and everything is the latest.. just ran directx webupdate, and it dl'ed some optional components, still no luck. downloaded vc++ 2010 redist x64, "repair"-ed, without luck. also, i check for driver updates every once in a while, so im sure they are always the latest.

I've also got the exact same bug. What's (usually) the cause of it? Just so I might try to troubleshoot things from here.

Not a clue what the cause of this is, we only ever had 1 report of this when the game was released until this thread. Somehow all the 2d flash elements are being drawn onto the screen at the same time, even old stuff that shouldnt be there.

An update has either just released or is just about to release so check if that fixes anything.

No new updates im afraid :(

Since the update I can no longer play due to the game constantly getting stuck on the "Logging Into Network" and task manager says its not responding. I've tried re-downloading but the problem still exists, I've gone through the usual different drivers and what not even wiped windows to no avail.
*Edit: Problem solved, had to delete the tournament save from the userdata folder.

Bought the game on sale today, and got the same issues as described in this thread. Can't do anything at the main menu, and the graphics is glitched with logging into network message blinking.
Win 7 x64, ati 5870. all drivers up to date.
edit:
and no files exist in the Dogfighter folder, thus can't try the 'fix' mentioned by PythonJones.

Hi Solav,
First check is to make sure that your graphics card drivers are up to date.
After that, please ensure that your graphics card's control panel has Anti-Aliasing (and/or FORCE Anti-Aliasing) turned off as DogFighter's engine uses a Deferred Rendering Algorithm.
If that doesn't works, let us know and we can try some more options.
Thanks,
Brendan.

Hey,
AA and AF is set to "use app settings", and I'm running latest Catalyst 11.2.
http://www.imagebam.com/image/98b89b123717603
Took this screenshot while forcing window mode, in fullscreen mode the grass and "logging into network" and "connecting to network" flickers on top of each other. No mouse cursor, music plays.
Forced windowd, the correct resolution of 1920x1200 etc without luck.
I've also rechecked game cache content without luck.

Hi Solav,
Can you try changing from "Use Application Settings" to "Off".
After that, try the following:
Right-click on DogFighter in your Games Library
General Tab -> Set Launch Options
Past the following in:
-Graphics.windowed true -Graphics.shadows false -Graphics.postProcessing false -Graphics.width 800 -Graphics.Height 600
See how that goes.
Sidenote: Any specialised hardware? Overclocked rigs? SLi, Crossfire, etc?
Brendan.

Tried the new launch options and turning off app settings (even though this forces an AA setting on the game, like you previously mentioned one should not) without any luck. Same issue as the screenshot I've posted. Only thing one can do ingame is accessing the steam overlay menu, after closing it the steam overlay graphics becomes part of the faulty graphics on the startup menu.
No special hardware, stock settings. Generally no issues in other games, even old ones.
Thanks for your help so far though.

Ok.
Can you pastebin the runtime.log file located here:
Steam\steamapps\common\dogfighter\packages\DogFigh terV1\log
And also:
WINDOWS START MENU -> RUN
(type) DXDIAG (press OK)
SAVE ALL INFORMATION
And Pastebin that also?
That should give us something to go.
Brendan.

No change after the Ace patch, though I didn't expect that patch to solve this issue.
Did anyone in this thread besides PythonJones manage to get this issue solved for them?

Hi Solav,
Can you also try updating your Flash Player?
Detailed discussion here:

Or direct download link here:

There is a Win 7 x64 player, but its beta.
Let me know if it works.
We are working to reproduce this error in the studio, it's very high up the priority on our bug list, so hang in there.

Tried both 10.2 and 10.3 beta without any change.
Thanks for trying to reproduce and fix this issue.

any updates on this?
im having the same issue running on windows xp prof 32 bits, video card is ati 4870.
tried everything i saw here: updating video card drivers, installing the new flash players (wasnt sure which version so i installed both, the version for IE and the version for the other browsers). re downloaded the game and made sure there were no files with the GFX extension.
also ran the game using those commands that make it run windowed 800*600 but the same thing happened
thanks in advance

@zingar
Thanks for the post - I believe you are the first non-Win7 (64 bit) user to experience this problem, and hopefully you'll offer some more clues.
So can you try and run the game, and then shut it down. and pastebin the runtime.log file, as well as your dxdiag output. and an imagebin of your view of the main menu (or however far you get into the game).
and the usual questions.
Anything *special* running in the background?
Any special configuration (e.g. SLi, overclocking).
Thanks,
Brendan.

Hi guys,
0. In your DogFighter/packages/DogFighterV1/profiles directory there should be a single file, menu.cfg. If you copy and paste it (to the same directory) and rename the copy, to match your Steam name, e.g. mine is NAME.cfg and run DogFighter.
If it works, great.
If it doesn't, check the runtime.log file, and look for a line with the following:
[DEBUG-CHECKPOINT] CFileManager_Win32::getBundleUniformedPath() pSrc = dogfighterv1\profiles\ <YOUR STEAM NAME HERE>.cfg
and make sure that the name of the file that was trying to be loaded matched the name you set the newer CFG file to.
If that changes nothing, then try the next step...
1. Run memTest on your computers. You can download it for free, burn it to CD/DVD and its bootable. It takes maybe 30 minutes to run through and it validates that your physical memory is all in order.
http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
Let me know the results of both tests.
Brendan.

tried the first 2 steps but it didnt work :/
i had 3 lines with "[DEBUG-CHECKPOINT] CFileManager_Win32::getBundleUniformedPath() pSrc = dogfighterv1\profiles\ <YOUR STEAM NAME HERE>.cfg" one still had the menu.cfg on it instead of the file i created so i modified it
couldnt run the memtest since ive been without a cd drive for years now :p
but i got plenty of games so i dont think this is the case
anyways dont worry about it i can still play it on another pc, if you can think of something else though please share it :p
thanks a lot
