I have a question regarding this game engine. I am doing a research paper on the Quake Engine (the one released for the original Quake in 1996) and I need the cost of Research and Development for this game engine. I am mainly looking for the cost of the Engine alone, but if you have information on the game Quake's R&D please post it, any info will help.
tl;dr Looking for R&D cost to produce original Quake Engine

Don't forget that Quake was developed to become QuakeWorld engine which was the basis for the GoldSrc engine which was used for Half-Life
Quite a legacy

The engine is free. You only have to pay for special licenses.
