If you were banned, then most likely forever. If you were excessively going on killstreaks then yeah, that'd be why.

Usually it will just say kicked if the ban is only temp.

What did you do? Kill loads of innocents? Griefing? Was the ban automatic, or an admin action? If an admin banned you, then you must of really did something to tee him off. Either way, try to contact the server admins and maybe offer an apology for whatever and see if they can lift the ban for you.

The game is very new and fresh. I don't think they should be dishing out permabans to new people who simply might not realize how to play the game properly yet.

Right now I am holding off kicks and bans untill people have a chance to get use to the game. Have a few admin request but holding off for a few days .

Most likly you got a 30 min auto-kick ban for killing the wrong persons.

Also looking through the server logs looks like a few people are getting temp bans becuse of Auth-errors (steam problems).

Wish the developers would shed some light on settings becuse right now there is nothing to adjust.

It really kinda wasn't my fault. I enabled the trap in the house to kill my quarry. It at first killed only my quarry but then people started jumping in intentionally. It was hilarious but I got banned. A severe oversight of the developers if you ask me, shame for everything they got right they got something wrong.

Luckily for the most part doesn't do this intentionally too much. I was playing with a good group of guys on Rustydog's server they thought it be funny and it was. I'm now thinking what might happen if we spread the word and if people start playing this massively.

Yes its EVERY server by default.

However I think I have found away to turn the level down .

Will know more latter on but will have a test server up to see if it works and if it causes problems .

There's something called HLDSUpdatetool that allows you to install servers for Steam based games like this without having Steam itself installed. All the other games, like L4D, TF2, CSS, etc all use it. I guess they just haven't gotten it set up with the tool yet.

rustydog - Do you have to have the game installed to have the dedicated server show up under tools? I know some of the DS's can be installed without the game being installed.

they have not put it on hlds yet .

I bought a second copy of the game so I can run it on server box. It was only $5.00 bucks . normaly i use hldsupdate tool but this got the job done.


also hlsw runs just fine with the server and is what I use for admining the server . That along with being able to have the server console up and running on a third computer thats directly connected to the server .

Although I think I need a computer intervention as I seem to have too many computers .... #
#1 Game system ....
#2 Internet and work horse system ....
#3 Laptop for running teamspeak and hlsw and other rcon tools.
#4 Net book (just for grins)...
#5 Homeserver to keep the 4 systems backed up and share data....
#6 dedicated server sitting in a data center running the game servers . (and also backing up the home server back ups).

Thats six systems in total in use ...I think I am sick ..

I know, I use it, but BGT isn't directly a Valve game, so the coding is different. That's why steamworks games that aren't from Valve get released with the appropiate DS tools.

I've been on steam for years, I just made a forum account for something specific regarding LP2. Imo they shouldn't separate accounts like that. It's kinda annoying having to manage 3 accounts for steam/support/forums.

I figured you were a newb because it seemed you didn't know what hldsupdatetool was based on your remark "This is a steamworks game, of course it needs steam", as if every game that is a "Steamworks" game needs Steam installed to run a dedicated server. There's no reason to believe that this game will require Steam to run a dedicated server forever. I am sure it'll be added to hldsupdatetool, at which point Steam will not be required to be installed to run the DS.

Not sure where that "judging" based on join date came from, unless you're reading something I'm not typing...

That's never been the case. They eventually release it on the hldsupdatetool so it can be run without steam, otherwise GSP's wouldn't be able to rent out the servers.

I'm talking about steamworks games, not source games.

Sadly HLDS supports less and less games. It's not viable anymore except for some games like CSS and other source mods.

I've stopped using it, the DS tools that usually get released with a steamworks game are getting mainstreamed to the point they always come with the required DS tools.

There are exponentially more and more games that get released with steamworks, and HLDS just can't keep up anymore.
I'm not saying that it's a good thing, but it'll do you good to switch and stop relying on HLDS.

HLDS will have to continue to exist for the GSP's. I don't see it going away any time soon and I doubt we'll see it not support this game.

seems to be six per round (I think) but ive seen people punished by spectating them etc.
