View Full Version : [Spoiler] The Ball - Secrets Guide

So, I figured it might be a good idea to make a guide for the locations of the hidden secrets. :)

It took quite a while to find them all, but with help from some other forum members it is finally complete! :D

Pehua

When you arrive at the room with the stone tablet and your first monkey, head left towards the door that is half-open. Jump over and into the cavern beyond to find Secret 1/4.

Soon after, you will find yourself in a room with a wooden bridge leading over a pool of water. Cross the bridge and you will find a gap on the right which will allow you to enter the surrounding cave. Explore the area outside the bridge to find Secret 2/4.

In the room directly after, you will need to place the ball on a button to ride a platform upwards. When you reach the top, look across behind you and you will see Secret 3/4 on a ledge. Jump across the wooden planks on the right to reach the ledge.

When you reach the room where you have to hammer the ball across the spiked floor to hit a button to lower it, you'll notice an alcove on the right-hand side, at the far end. Place the ball halfway between the ledge you're standing on and the ledge at the other end, then jump onto the ball, and quickly onto the lowest wooden peg on the ledge. Then jump onto a higher peg, and then onto the ledge itself. From there, you can easily jump across into the alcove to collect Secret 4/4.

Oztoc I

When you arrive in the corridor with a movable block set in the wall in front of you, you'll find that you can hammer it back into an alcove. Follow the tunnel until you emerge in a new corridor. Take the stairs to your right and continue. when you reach a dead end, you'll find the floor consists of two giant stone blocks. walk across both to lower them, and reveal Secret 1/6.

Shortly after, you'll find yourself in a large area where you'll have your first fight against a group of mummies. The first few will emerge from the central building, with the crane-like structure on top. Inside, you'll notice the door at the back is blocked and that there are wooden bars across the floor. This is significant. Leave the building and head around to the back. Defeat the mummies on the ground and up on the bridge. After jumping onto the bridge and pushing the button at the top, you'll find that the back door to the building will have opened, and the wooden bars will have gone, revealing an elevator. Step on with the ball, and ride it upwards, and you will find yourself on the roof. Walk across the roof and along the new path to find Secret 2/6, and an alternate route through the level.

Follow this alternate route, solving the puzzles along the way until you come to an area where you have to get two movable blocks out of a room with arrow traps. There is a stack of crates and planks right next to the traps, which you can use to climb up and jump to an opening above the traps, where you will find Secret 3/6. (found by Capndrake (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/member.php?u=704204))

Eventually, you will arrive in a room with an inactive elevator (this is where the two paths through the level converge). Go left and follow that corridor until you find Secret 4/6.

After riding the train through part of the level, get off and kill the mummies that come through the door. Then, follow the tracks back where you came from, and when you get the chance head left and follow the other tracks in the opposite direction to find Secret 5/6.

When you arrive in the underground village, check out the rocks near the field on the far right to find Secret 6/6.

Oztoc II

At the start, instead of taking the train, go right until you reach the end of the cave. Secret 1/4 can be found on top of a rock at the end. Use the wooden beam to reach it.

Take the train and, when it crashes and you emerge from the water, go right and remove the block from the doorway. Press the switch in this area to open the door to Secret 2/4.

You will eventually come to a room where you need to place the ball onto a space on the floor to raise the water level. When you have done so, check the small alcove where the slopes meet, which is now underwater, to find Secret 3/4.

After a while, you will enter a cylindrical room, with a pathway that spirals around the edge, leading up. Two mummies will appear in front of you when you enter. A switch at the top of the room will cause a beam in the centre to start spinning. Before pressing the other switch to shut it off, you'll notice Secret 4/4 sitting in an alcove at the edge. Stand at the very edge of the beam and jump across to a wooden peg nearby. Then jump from the peg to the alcove.

Teotl I

As soon as you reach the shore, swim under the bridge leading to the city to find Secret 1/4.

When you come to the area with the three spike pits (where you need to put the ball in each one, stand on it, and press the buttons), drop down into the middle one without the ball, when the spikes are low. Follow the tunnel, and you'll soon find Secret 2/4 on a ledge in the treasure chamber. (found by Capndrake (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/member.php?u=704204))

Right after obtaining the previous secret, drop down into the chamber and navigate the tunnels. One route leads to a hidden developer Easter egg, but the other will take you to an apparent dead end, where you'll find you can see Secret 3/4 behind some wooden planks that block your way. Crouch and move through underneath to collect it. Follow the underwater tunnel and you will find yourself in the area with three pillars in a row, sticking out of a large pool of water. This can be used as an alternate entrance to the secret you just collected, but not the other.

After leaving the city area, you will eventually encounter a room with giant fans that will make you float when you jump. Secret 4/4 is at the top of this room, in the alcove on the right.

Teotl II

After completing the ball elevator puzzle near the beginning and pressing the button on the bottom floor to open the gate, follow the corridor on the right, jump over the half-closed door, and you'll find Secret 1/4 at the end of the corridor.

When you reach the room with the pillars that rise and fall, jump over the air vent to float to the second floor, and then follow the second-floor platform around, past the player button, until you find a half-open door with vines hanging around it. Secret 2/4 can be found within.

When you reach the city, the first puzzle area on the left features a number of columns, with small ledges on certain sides, that can be rotated. Secret 3/4 can be found at the top of one of these pillars; you need to rotate them to the correct position.

When you reach the area where the ball has to travel along a set of rails, you have to stop it about midway through, at the corner, then use it to jump across to a high platform with Secret 4/4. Place it at the corner closest to the wooden planks hanging off of the ledge, then go back around to the ledge opposite (the one the planks are pointing to, with the building on it), and jump onto the ball, then onto the ledge. (found by Capndrake (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/member.php?u=704204))

Hueca

As soon as you reach the artificial sun chamber with the open underground desert, drive over to the pyramid in the top-right and check behind it to find Secret 1/6.

From there, go back towards the front pyramid, but along the edge of the underground desert cave. You should see an area low down, with wooden planks lying around. Check around these for an underground path. Dive into the water, and when you come up, head left and then right. You should find Secret 2/6 underwater.

In the front pyramid, when you reach the room where you have to traverse pipes to reach a button at the end, where two mummies shoot fire at you, head into the dark alcove. Search around, and you should find an entrance in the wall. Dive into the water here and follow the underwater tunnel. You will need to push a block out of the way, and by the end you will be running out of air. Rise to the surface and go left to find Secret 3/6. If you continue around, you'll find another underwater tunnel, which leads back out into the underground desert; this tunnel can be used as an alternate entrance.

When you enter the pyramid on the left, follow the path. The ball will soon gain a new ability, where you'll find gravity will be weaker in close proximity. When you reach the room with water on the floor and several bugs, check the ground until you find a hole in the floor, covered with wooden planks. There will be a gap large enough for you to enter. Swim down, and you will find Secret 4/6 at the bottom.

Shortly after this, still in the left pyramid, you will enter a dark maze, where the ball functions as a flashlight. After going down the slope and killing the bug there, turn left into the maze area with wooden boards forming barriers, then go left again and check the wall to the left of you for a small tunnel which will lead you to Secret 5/6.

When you enter the flashlight maze in the pyramid on the right, you'll find several dead ends with spikes on the floor and skull symbols on the wall. When you come across the mummy that reanimates to attack you (if you're at the breakable wall, you've gone too far), head left and then left again to the third dead end spike trap. Look at the wall on the right, and you'll see a hole. Jump across to find Secret 6/6 in the alcove.

Cahua I

In the room with the two vertical spike traps in the walls, where the ball has its gravity reducing ability back, jump onto the middle ledge (where two mines are set, and where you can see another secret behind some bars). Look across and you'll see a ball button, and to the right, three thin metal pipes on the wall. Just to the left of these pipes is a hole in the wall. Use the ball's ability to enter, and follow the corridor to find Secret 1/4.

In the room with the furnace where you fight your first Tlaloc, head down the ramp to continue, and you'll notice a sheet of metal lying at an angle against the wall. Go behind it to find a hidden passageway lined with mines, and Secret 2/4.

Soon after, when you find yourself outside again, the other side of the large gate, head left and go behind the building you just came out of. Follow the wall and you will find Secret 3/4.

When you reach the factory building and you have to leave the vehicle, head around to the left of the building instead of entering. Keep going along the edge, and you will notice Secret 4/4 on a rock over in the lava. Use the rocks and planks to reach it.

Cahua II

Eventually, you'll come to a colossal room, composed of two walls stretching off in all directions into the darkness. This is shortly before the end of the level. There will be a long, steep slope leading down to the left which you will need to follow. You'll soon find a door to your left, with a wooden beam preventing you from bringing the ball. Go into this room and you'll find a mining area. On the left, in the corner, you'll find Secret 1/3.

In the same room, jump up onto the wooden beams and climb the scaffold. You will be able to access a cave high up in the wall, hiding Secret 2/3.

Head back to the long slope and go all the way to the bottom, and then go right, across the bridge. You will see a door, with a block keeping it from closing which is too high to jump over. Turn around and come away from the door and look to your right, towards the railing. A section is missing. Jump down and follow the vent you will find. Inside, you'll find Secret 3/3, across a small pool of lava. (found by MADDOGGE (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/member.php?u=428996))

In the final chapter/level(Cahua II?) there is a door with a block keeping it from closing but too high to jump over. Turn around and come away from the door and look to your right to the railing. A section is missing. Jump down and follow the vent you will find. Inside is a secret(3 of 3?) and the way out into the room you can't get into from the outside. It's easy to get out of the room.;)

Fantastic, thanks! I'll add that in. Since the two I've already noted are found near the penultimate room, I'm assuming this one is found before those two? I'll put it before them for now. :)

The 4th secret in Pehua was a bugger. I died so many times til I got it right.:)

Ah, so I got the locations wrong. I'll fix that now. Thanks so much for your help, and for validating the order! :)

Yeah, the fourth Pehua secret is just a case of getting the ball in the right place, but I tried walking on the rolling ball at first. Not a good idea.

The last one in Teotl I is in one of the three rising/lowering spike pits you have to drop your ball in to stand on. Don't drop the ball in and fall down and into an alcove.

I knew there had to be some purpose to the alternate path. I mean, it's so much longer than the couple of rooms you'd go through on the normal path.

I have found an alternate way to the 3rd secret in Teotl I. When you drop down into the spike pit to get the second secret there is a maze of tunnels down there. Follow them around and eventually you will come out behind the third secret. By crouching you can get under the plank and through and then come up in the pool with the 3 pillars.

:D:DThis can be problematic however as it seemed to activate all the mummies in the tri-state area and here you are without the Ball and they are waiting for you. LOL. I panicked and instead of going to where I had left the Ball, I chose to run all the way back to the bridge and into the water.:o There had to be 20-25 mummies. Eventually I made it back to the Ball but it was lagging awefull because of how many Mummies were around. Finally I managed to kill them all off and the lag went away.

I don't know if this is a legit alternative route or just a missing invisible wall. Either way it was definitely exciting though.:D:D

Hah, awesome! :D Is that the only way out of the spike pit, though? I'll need to know before I change anything because if it is, it has to be legit and would be the main way to find secret three. As soon as I got the second secret, I left to the main menu (since that was the only reason I went back to Teotl I), and with the guide I only detail how to get to secrets so that people can figure out the next move themselves, but I'll note that as an alternative entrance to secret three, or the main entrance if you can confirm that it's the only exit. Thanks! :)

I treated almost every mummy encounter as I would in life. I spent most of the game panicking, going 'oh god, oh god', and wondering why the hell Spebbington wouldn't just run away screaming and crying like I would.

Sometime I miss mummies with the Ball so a mummy is getting closer so I panic and go backwards constantly sucking the ball back, I keep shouting at the Ball to go faster and faster, then when the mummy is about a foot from me, SPLAT! I sigh with a relief but only to discover that the mummy wasn't alone...

I think it is this because you have no real way to kill them apart from the Ball and the environment e.g. water or lava. So you can't really kill them with confidence like you would with a gun.

Is that the only way out of the spike pit, though? I don't know. I wouldn't change anything just on my word until some one else verifies it one way or another but it does appear to be at least an alternate route for getting the 2nd secret without going into the pit I would assume. Needs to be checked out from pool side after the three pits have been done.

I'm on my 3rd play through at this time, having just started Teotl II and don't really feel like going back and checking at this time.

To quote the text from that very secret: "There must be a better way, I thought.".
After dying a whole bunch of times, I finally managed to get this secret.
At first I tried pulling the ball while on top of it, rolling it accross the spikes, but I kept felling off.
It's only the first level, more or less a tutorial, so it's hard to believe having to fiddle around with the physics to get the Ball in the proper spot in the middle, then doing some dangerous jumps, is the right way to solve this puzzle.
After playing through the level once, it is easy to race through it again, get all the secrets, without ever having to come close to death, except for this spot...
It feels like some bad game design, so aren't we simply missing something?

I seriously doubt it; there's absolutely nothing more to the room. It's not bad game design, it's just a challenge. The secrets encourage subsequent playthroughs, and so I think this is justified. It's not that difficult, anyway. :)

I played through the game now (the story mode).
From that perspective, only going for completing the secrets you missed afterwards, it's not that bad.
You are expected to be able to manipulate The Ball a bit better later on to solve puzzles, and to defeat enemies, but it never becomes too difficult.
Also you're able to jump pretty far in this game, control your jumps pretty well, so it's mostly just getting the ball in the right spot after you get the platform jumping down.
I really was expecting the wooden pegs to slide out and form a bridge or something.

Anyway, I played through the game in one sitting, so yes, I definitely like it.
I got a few more than half of the secrets, and I'll also try to get the other Achievements.
I wouldn't mind an expansion or sequel along the line either. :)
