Hey guys.
The first three RB6 games are my all time favourites. They are from a time where gameplay and fun matters more than anything else. Tactical shooters with a planning phase...what a great idea...and the fear of dying from an one-shot-head-kill was just nerve breaking and challenging.
Anyway, I wanted to play Raven Shield again and so I've been searching for graphic mods and found out that someone is working on a major overhaul. It's called "Raven Shield 2.0" and improves textures, graphics, etc.
I don't know if you guys heard of it but I haven't seen anything here in the forum. So, here is my question to you:
Does someone know if a download is available?
From what I've seen on the links below is that it's not finished yet, but maybe you know something I don't.

Is this "The Sum of All Fears" what you are referring to? The graphics look identical to RB6 3 Ravenshield.
Hmmm....nevermind, read here about The Sum of All Fears (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sum_of_All_Fears_(video_game)). RB6 game engine, just dumbed down from the original.

Hey guys, I'm a member of the team that's creating 2.0. We are aiming for a Christmas release. In one of the links above some people attacked the goggle feature; let me say first of all that the goggles greatly enhance the immersion factor when you see them take damage according to what's attacking you. And secondly, one of our texture guys has military experience, and he's the one who drew the goggles, so we can attest to its realism.
Here are some screenshots of the mod as we've currently got it:

looks great so far :D
definitely keeping my eye on this. pretty much the only problem i have with Raven Shield is that the graphics leave a little bit to be desired. that and the fact that there's no 1911 :(

I have the mod installed, and i must say compared to the vanilla Rainbow six 3 gold, Raven shield 2.0 has much more eyecandy :) Also harder a.i. in some spots including your own squad a.i. Though at some points the weapons kinda seem the same as the vanilla, yet the add ons to the weapons somehow stand out. Now go GO AND DOWNLOAD IT! IT MAY BE YOUR ULTIMATE DESTINY TO DL THE ♥♥♥♥ OUTTA IT GO! DO IT *whip whip* GOEZ!

Unfortunately, it appears you can't download 2.0 anymore due to Ubisoft's cease and desist order to the devs.
I suspect it will turn up in a few of the, um.. "shadier" parts of the 'Net soon enough though...

So terrible, my only conclusion is that ubisoft doesn't want us to keep playing this game. Naturally, the only proper thing i can do is to KEEP play it since it's a great game!

I agree. It's really sad and a bit short-sighted of Ubisoft in my eyes. If anything, the 2.0 mod had the potential to stimulate additional interest in the original RvS games (meaning additional sales of a game that was released almost EIGHT years ago now).
I truly feel bad for the devs that sacrificed what must have been a LOT of their time to bolster the RvS community with their mod. To have to yank it less than 2 weeks after they released it must have been crushing...

Ubi probably has a new Rainbow Six series coming soon

I'm sure many will agree -- If Ubi is indeed planning a return to the series, I hope they skip the Vegas series and go all the way back to the tactical Raven Shield style of game. While the Vegas games were okay, I found the lack of depth with regards to mission planning disappointing.

Woaw woaw WHAT THE HELL Ubisoft ?!
You do realize you're shooting your most dedicated fans at point-blank by doing this ?
You can't just crush a mod with your boots when you feel like it, behind that mod, there is several people who developed it, they gave their time and skills for your product, without asking anything in return.
And there's the players who supported the mod, who waited for its release.
You can't deny their existence.
They are your playerbase : they buy the sequels, they recommend it around them (free marketing work !), they keep the IP alive and worth something.
Spitting on their face by handing them a legal threat letter without any discussion is the best way to destroy any remaining trust.
I mean, these guys spent days, weeks, months making this mod to keep R6 RS2 alive and interesting, to keep YOUR fanbase strong, and you're treating them like counterfeiters, pirates. What happened ?!
I hope you do understand selling a R6 game is NOT like selling a CallOfDuty game, for the R6 product you have to actually respect your potential customers a little.
(or you, Ubisoft, wants to turn R6 into "yet-another-CoD" game, with more explosions and narrow-patriotism, less tactics and difficulty-overcoming, then being very rude to your playerbase is not a problem, they'll buy it anyways)
NB : I played the R6 games back then, now I moved to other things, but I am still very shocked at the way Ubisoft dealt with the mod. It's that hard to negociate, to talk, to communicate ?!
Oh, no, communication is the job of the marketing team only, which will do its marketing job (buying banners, calling "journalists" to show them generic trailers and let them try the beta on gamepads for 15 minutes), 2 or 3 months before the release of the next R6 game, then they'll move on another title. Other members of Ubisoft are not allowed to communicate in any form with the user base.
=> let me guess : they included some features you were planning to add in a sequel ? why don't you just negociate with them, and see how they implemented it in the game ?!
It's that hard to imagine, cooperating with your fans ?!
I can't believe someone green-lighted that cease and desist without any form of discussion, this is so much wrong, it's either an error or incompetence.
Ubisoft is really going down, acting like Activision without having the same power.
It's incredible, even EA (even them !), despite being one of the most hated (by gamers) publishers in the video-game industry, understood they had to regain a little bit of trust with the gamers to get back on track.
And Ubisoft is completely off the beat, acting with such arrogance and disdain, like if they were the number one by far (NB : I regret to inform you that's not the case).
Then you'll complain that the sales are bad, and to avoid being fire you'll blame piracy (as usual), and will pay an enormous amount of money for a ridiculous badly made DRM system that will make your games more famous for the DRM drama rather than for the quality of their gameplay. Mission accomplished, you're not fired (yet).
Seriously wake up guys, you won't be able to afford that for many years.
(A Friendly Reminder) Mods provide you :
a strong dedicated fan base (something a company can't buy)
new innovative ideas, concepts (as modders are not limited in their creativity)
new potential future employees (guess what : a game that has 25+ modders will have a better reputation amongst students building their porfolio with mods, and there's a chance some of modders are very talented and would love to work on the game series = motivated, talented and dedicated candidates)
The modders are your friend.
They develop for you, for free.
Treat them well, you'll be well rewarded.
Kick them out, you'll lose the most important : trust.

Hey guys, dev team member here again.
Yeah, it makes us pretty sad that UBI pulled the plug on yet another mod again. You'd think it was 2004 all over again.
But for those wondering why would they do this, the answer is pretty simple. It's money. The more people pick up Rvs in the bargain bin for $4, the more people play this awesome game and install mods, the LESS people UBI has buying their newest run-and-gun console piece of crap game.
UBI's strategy for money is simple: kill off old games as fast as possible, and pull in the largest possible demographic to the new games. Raven Shield is a thorn in their side because it's lasted so long and because modders like us have kept up interest in it, despite how hard UBI tried to kill modding.
There's a massive history going back to 2003, but the short version is this: 2.0 is not the first Raven Shield mod to get a cease and desist. Not only that, but UBI did a lot to hurt the modding community. The last patch, version 1.6, was mostly released to close off loopholes that allowed mods.
Anyways, I can rant about this all day, but the good news is this: modders are still working on the game, and there are lots of cool mods already released. Check out rvsgaming.com, and try out the Ordnance Project mod and Mercenary 2 mod. These are both mods that I had a hand in creating, and they both have lots of cool new guns!

Thanks twilight for the info.
Anyway in these days Ubisoft and Activision policies are worse than EA ones.
Counter Strike still is one of the Valve's most played games... thanks to many mods available.
Unfortunately few publishers/studios understand that modding community is not the enemy.

Ugh, Ubisoft should join with Blizzard-Activision to create a gaming hell on earth.
After playing GRAW, GRAW 2, ArmA 1 and 2, Project Reality and other more realistic shooters... I finally came across Vegas. While I understand that's not as hardcore as Raven Shield, it was fun enough that I've just bought RS off of Steam. Very disappointed this mod has been stopped by Ubi because the graphics are woeful and could have used a pick-up.
While I do believe that killing the aftermarket modding of games is one of their goals, Ubi probably don't want us hooked on RS or other older games because that Future Soldier title looks to be rather close by and it's better we're all starved of military squad-based shooter action so we're all the hungrier to buy it on release.

Ok, so I have no real solid proof of that.. but still, you know it is going to be true. :(
(I must confess to being fairly off-put about GR:FS due to it being set in the future. >_> )
Gotta say, I would like to see a WWI or WWII era Ghost Recon in the same sort of style as original Ghost Recon. You know, none of this "hero" and touchy-feely story stuff.
This is a random group of people and they approach a situation in whatever way the player feels like and carry out the missions in whatever way the player feels like.
That is one of the things I loved about early Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon!
Yea, coop GR:AW and R6:V is still fun, but damn, you miss the good times of the past.

Loved the game so much, but more importantly I MISSED the squad based tactics and the necessary team effort to complete maps!!!... so, I started up a coop server and an adversarial server, once again...surprise, surprise there were a few of the old clans from the heyday of RvS still out there!!! Not as many as I would like but enough to get a good scrim going!!! Shame on UBI for doing this to us...again...they ought to just let it go, they got our money already, so why would they want to stop modders??? Makes no sense at all...oh well, still have my servers up...thinking about adding a few custom maps...fun times...woot!

Did anyone consider that maybe Ubisoft is planning on releasing a new Rainbow Six?
I know that every time I was modding and received a cease and desist from a developer or publisher for a mod I was working on, that 90% of the time it was because the company was working on a new version and felt my mod would "steal" sales.
On one hand it sucks that a mod is being stopped
One the other hand, it would be sweet if the Ravenshield / Rainbow Six games of old were revived with today's tech.
