Yes it is, just as idiotic as trying to get this game to run on a single core CPU and then complain that the game is broken, even though it specifies it needs at least 2 powerful cores.

P.S. The reason is because of BAD optimization for the PC Machine... They mostly care about xBox and PS3...

LOL, it is the core in some cases. I did read it and I duplicated it myself with one of my single core systems. Some people with more cores have had the same problem but most of them have fixed it.

A few people with a single cores that have hyper threading, which elmulates dual core, got the game to start but at unplayable levels for you average person. Single core can cause this, as can other things. If you have a single core then that is the problem. If you have multi cores then work it out, you can fix it.

With my single core I got it past the black screen to the menu, where it hangs with an hour glass over the mouse cursor.

Unfortunately, in this case, it isn't... It's just badly optimized... I have tried the game on a double-core too... No, it's lucky I have same issue on both PCs... I'll just wait for the patch... No way there won't be one... Or maybe I am too optimistic... Whatever...

My OS is Win7.
I have 4 GB RAM.
I have latest DX and ATI drivers.
So WTF is wron with my PC if game just dont want to start?! I tried different things. I read this f***ing Direct3Device topics every day for new solutions but none of them works for me.

My problem is not a black screen. I runed game in window mode and there pops an error

Error during initialization:
Direct3DDevice9::Present failed: n/a (-1071242991)

and one box called CaLL of Duty Singleplayer - Ship Console
where i can see log of initialisation process. I can write it here if you are interested. There a lot of "Error: Could not load material" messeges so its defenetly not my PC's problem

So I upgraded to ati 10.10 drivers and this started happening to me..

black screen on initial game load completely locked up the system. So I upgraded today to 10.11 and the problem went away. 10.11 came out yesterday hope this helps you guys.

cause its almost the same Direct3D Device problem. Some people have black screen. Others have error messeges. I have black screen or freez in fullscreen mode. In window mode i can see what error is it.

For 5-10 minutes may be. Its not always black screen. When i was trying different solutions described here(or in another similar thread) game freezes at different points. sometimes at "press any key" sometimes right after launch. But anyway - it freezing with hourglass. In mp its exacly what have other unlucky people "hourglass & freeze at main menu"

For now, with original cfg files game crashes(or freezes in fullscreen) after 2-4 seconds. I cant get even to press any key)

Same issue, freezes at black screen with the Windows busy cursor, no intro video or anything. I Ctrl-Alt-Del out of it and it is Not Responding and I have an error pop-up that says Couldn't Load Image 'side_small'. Verifying game cache does not help. I don't have any problems running World at War, MW, MW2, or any other games and I run them all at 1920x1080/max settings. I expected some issues but this is just very disappointing, especially when you pay $60. I do miss the days when you could purchase a game and it would...what's the word I'm thinking of...oh yeah...RUN. I should have just went with Fallout: New Vegas. Thanks Treyarch. System specs are as follows:

Radeon 4870 w/ 1GB DDR5
E8400 @ 3.00
6GB RAM
Win7 Ultimate x64

Going to try updating ATI drivers and maybe deleting local game content and giving it another go.

Finally got it working. I kept verifying the game cache even though it said it was good and it finally downloaded another 725MB of data. Not sure if that is the same problem everyone else is having. Then it updated itself. The game still runs like ♥♥♥♥ though, even on low settings. I have to say that I am thoroughly dissatisfied with this piece of overpriced garbage. I want my damn money back.

I have the similar problem, even though sometimes I can get through to the SP menu.
But just few seconds after that, during the FMV, the game just freeze and I neeed to restart my PC. So,since day one, I haven't played SP at all because of this error.

MP game just works fine. Laggy but playable.

My PC spec:
E6600
Radeon HD5670
2 gb
XP sp3

I will try to reinstall the game and see if this can fix the problem.

Went to play mine yesterday and after steam loaded and the game went to start i got a black screen, cont alt delt and there was a fatal error box. tried the single player and it works as do my other steam games? Installed game 5 days ago.
AMD PhenomII 555 3.2 black edition cpu
Gigabyte ma770t-ud3p mobo
xfx HD 5770 vid card
corsair 750 watt psu
Any ideas?

I am crashing left right and centre also:( But get this i'm on a brand new quad core ,amd athlon with 8gb ram and 1 TB hardrive AND 1gb ATI RAD HD 5045... AFTER MY OTHER SINGLE CORE PC DIED ON CHRIMBO EVE... wouldntt be surprised if it was with all the crashing and errors caused by this game.. But you would think a brand new pc would be able to handle this game easily... Don't get me wrong i can play it with settings to the max and with no lag and its beautiful but i'm lucky if i get 1 - a few good games and it freezes up and i have to task manager to escape.. tried pretty much everything.. I haven't deleted the config.mp files this time.. I'm wondering if it's still necessary after all the patches.. anyone know?

lol i get this only with hanoi.and activision basicly saide they didnt give rats ♥♥♥ becouse i usde an unsupported procc. but seeing as how ive been playing game fine uptill last patch then all sudden hanoi just dont work for me tech support saide so what.i have completly lost faith in activision now and coulde care less if they go bellyup lol

I just installed the latest driver for Radeon. The logs says it has a hot fix for BlackOps, and it is true. Now, I can play the campaign mode, I passed the first mission and continue to play. I can even reload the mission without any crashes or freezes.

The game still crashes during the in-game movie.

You have to enable all your cores via Task Manager. When you launch the game, and when it asks you if you'd like to start the game in safe mode or whatever, open the task manage, right click "set affinity" and do it there. Your game should work then.

Don’t waste your time - this doesn’t work.

Never played this game - can’t get past the intro screens, just at the point where it says 'click left mouse button to skip', it freezes.

Just completely locks up the entire system - seriously naff programming to lock up a 64 bit system.

This is pitiful – this must be easily the longest thread ever - and still no solution.

How sad is that?

ok...go into the bios setup...under peforance, enable the dual core...
i spent weeks upon weekd fixing this FINALY got it!!
ALL new coputers have duel core..but if you have upgraded windows or reinstalled or anything along those lines,for some reason windows will not reconize it..<---BAD spelling sorry

Hey Guys, I know you've been at this for ages.... here's my two cents... I didn't have all my updates for windows XP... I'm thinking that net framework is the problem..try updating your netframework all up to the latest version...and make sure all hotfixes and updates from automatic updates in xp is installed.... are all of you having this issue on Windows XP??? Hope this helps ya! I'm in the process I'll write back to say if it works.
