Hi,

The launcher is greying out the option to play using DX10 or DX11, saying I need service pack 2.

I'm using Windows 7.

I don't think there *is* a service pack 2. I'm not even sure there's a service pack 1 yet.

I certainly can't download an SP2.

What's up with this?

It seems like I might be...

Going through to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Launcher.exe gives me both DX9 and DX10/11 options.

Most odd.

Unfortunately, if I try and run the DX10 mode, it then restarts the launcher, with DX10/11 greyed out.

The card's a Radeon 4870x2, by the way. No question that it's an actual DX10 card...

Right click on launcher.exe and click properties, and look at the compatability tab, and see if it is running in vista SP1 mode.

Nope. The "Compatibility Mode" check-box isn't activated.

...

Well, that's weird.

Just tried it again, and this time, like the last time, it gave me the option of starting win 9 or 10 mode. When I selected 10, where last time Launcher.exe restarted and only gave me the option of playing in DX9 mode the second time, this time it visibly opened a Steam startup window, started Launcher again, but offered me both modes.

So I guess I've got it running in DX10 mode now.

Don't know how or why. The best kind of computer fixes...

Oh well, at least it seems to work now. Thanks for your help.

I also can't run the game in DX10 \ 11, even though the launcher shows it as "recommended". when i click on it, the launcher hangs/crashes and closes. I have to go back into steam and click the PLAY button.

I never messed with any compatibility mode, so if it's enabled, it's a bug.

Anyone else seeing this?

I have an i5 750, win7x64, Radeon 5770. The game plays fine in Dx9.

Ran into this problem on my wife's computer. Was able to fix this by

(exit steam first)
1. Right Click on Steam.exe and select properties.
2. Selected Compatibility Tab.

At this point I noticed Compatibility Mode is greyed out, selected and said Windows Vista.

3. At the bottom of the tab hit the button that says "Change settings for all users"
4. Deselected Compatibility Mode.
5. Selected Apply then OK.
6. Relaunched Steam, Play Civ5 and walla, I now can select DX 10/11.

Hope this helps!

NOTE: This is already stated in the Sticky Troubleshooting thread as #11
