I bought Gothic 3 a while ago, and while it's a great game n all it was very poorly optimised. Even with the fan patch the game was still rather sluggish.
Does this game suffer from a similar problem?
System requirements are saying a p4 which my PC far surpasses, however I thought the same about Gothic 3 and it ran pretty poorly!

Just try the Demo, it's on Steam.:)
All I can say is that the demo ran quite well on my outdated system which consists of an X2 4200+, 2GB Ram and a GeForce GTS 250 1GB. :D

You have to tweak it a bit if I remember right, but it runs definitively better than Gothic 3

Am I the only one who doesn't see a demo on the store page?

I don't see the demo now either but weeks ago it did run quite well for me even though yesterday's purchased version now will not start.

Thank you. I was also able to find a demo here:

My only complaint (whine, whine) is that it is an hour-long download. So, an hour to download it, then if I decide I like it and decide to buy it on Steam, it will likely be another hour-long download from Steam, too. In addition, whenever I download a demo from somewhere else, it's always a gamble as to whether or not my progress from the demo will carry over to the Steam-purchased version or whether I will be forced to start all over again. Sometimes one way, sometimes the other.
Not a huge deal-breaker, mind you, but since it seems that there was previously a demo on Steam, I can't understand why there isn't one now. Convenience for the customer almost always equals more sales.

Could've downloaded from gamershell which has mirrors for several different countries, or googled for a mirror in your area as I did.
Download manager sure helps.

It wasn't a case of not being able to find a demo somewhere. Honestly, I'm not completely helpless. It was a question of why the demo isn't available on Steam anymore when it was clearly used to be.
I think we posted at about the same time, so if you look above, you will see why I think this is an annoyance. Not the end of the world, just an annoyance, especially considering several people have said they got their demo off Steam a while back.

The game runs fine on my system, which is becoming a little outdated (q6600 @ 2.9ghz - ATI 5770 - 4gb RAM - W7x64). I am achieving between 40-60fps, and the engine works well to decieve the eye so it appears to run very smoothly indeed. I am only 10-15 minutes into the game and I am running it at 1920x1200 resolution with everything maxed out exept shadows and vegetation set to medium.
One thing of importance to note is that the game has no Vsync option, and even forcing it on with your video card software will make no difference. Download Rivatuner and install it, but instead of booting up RivaTuner, goto the directory you installed it in and find the D3Doverrider application. Add Risen to the list and then when you run the game it will force vsync on.
The reason you will want this fix is because when in the game menus and character screen, the lack of vsync will push your frame rate up to the high hundreds or even low thousands which mine did. This results in your video card suffering a spike of high temperates which, regardless of how good your cooling is, will push it to temperatures you do not want it running at.

The original demo was flawed. It was probably pulled from Steam and the publisher didn't arrange for the replacement to be added to Steam. Does it cost money to have your demo integrated into Steam?
From games.on.net, regarding the new Risen demo:
The original demo for Risen wasn't packed correctly, resulting in an installation error on some computers. The latest version is now available for download. Users that downloaded the original demo will have to download the new one its place.
