Basically I've only played CoD4 and currently playing Black Ops but I heard that CoD2 is the best in the series and I'm looking to play older games and wondering if the online community is still huge in this game.

Go for it. I like it a lot. It has plenty of the COD1 multi maps too plus more.

It looks way better than COD1 W/ OU too. Pretty crispy, nice gun details. Just lacks environmental effects of MW1 and beyond.

If you're wondering about the community, look at this.

And those are only the ones that play with XFire ! =D

I don't know how anybody can think it's the best. It's a lot better than its successors, but the original is by far superior.

CoD2 was a consolized remake of CoD1, which means they took out rate of fire changing, added breath holding on the scope, made health regenerate over time, and several other changes that dumbed the game down a lot.

The only real improvement was graphics.

And having health packs makes it a PC game? Honestly, what you gave as examples don't make it "consolized." Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly like those changes either, but still. Remember, it at least has a lean function on the PC version, something all the console CoD's lack.

I wouldn't say CoD2 had become a primarily console game, just that it was clearly headed that way. I think it was inferior to the original, while still being a good game.

I'm not sure what you mean by console CoDs, because the only CoD without lean is CoD:MW2.

Anyways, my response was only to people considering CoD2 to be the best. It is still a very enjoyable game, but I'm not sure what makes people think it is better than the original.

For sure, I see your point. I too feel that the first is the best with 2 being not far behind for me. With regard to the no lean function, all the CoD's that appeared on console, or at least the console version of the game did not feature any sort of lean function. The reason I brought that up was simply to say that at the very least, one of the key gameplay elements of this franchise was not put on the chopping block when they made versions of the game for the consoles, MW2 not withstanding.

For the record, nothing beats the boat ride into Stalingrad from the first game, not even the D-Day sequences.

Its the best game in the series.

Definitely. By far the most skill demanding COD of the series. And the greatest thing about it is that it's not a sloppy console ported game! It's dated, sure, but loads of people still play it. Just on public servers, but also on competitive levels (CB, ESL, ...).

All that 'consolized' stuff makes that I love COD2.

Activision is much greedy with old games.

I say go ahead. I have a retail copy of it, and for story reasons, it's much better than the Modern Warfare games. Mainly because you get more than 4 hours out of it. Never bothered with multiplayer, to be honest.

I played it a month or 2 ago and most servers I joined were stupid custom maps with stupid gameplays so I gave up :(

Definitely not the most skill demanding. In my opinion it's inferior to vCoD. There was more recoil to deal with, you didn't have steady scope, and grenades weren't nuclear bombs. CoD was by far the the best and most rewarding. Since that, and UO, it's gone downhill, to the point where you only need to get 5 kills in a row in order to get 30 more from perks and whatnot.

Unfortunately, both games are basically dead. There are still a lot of people who play cod2, and even some that play vCoD, but almost every server out there with the exception of a few, has some ♥♥♥♥ mod running on it which ruins the gameplay.

Definitely.
This is the Grandfather of all Cod games.
The snipers may be a little unbalanced, but other than that there is nothing to complain about.
I got my copy from Amazon for about $20.

I think it's worth it. I bought it downloadable via Steam more than a year ago (I think), but am only just now getting around to actually really playing it and I'm finding it to be great.

I JUST, a few minutes ago, completed the 3d Mission of the British Anti-Afrika Corps Campaign, and it's very good. Lots of heavy and intense fighting, but still yet straightforward and not too chaotic as to be confusing and all.

You must patrol a town in Egypt to eliminate several Flak '88 nests. The filthy ♥♥♥♥ bastards attack from the front and often behind, retaking lost ground if you don't push forward quickly enough. It's great to kill 'em! But that's not to say it's just that easy--in fact, that part of the Mission is quite challenging, which is more fun!

It's better than Call of Duty's S-P game, but I have yet to decide if it's better than United Offensive also. (Ask me again when I complete the whole S-P game, if you wanna.)

It's not yet better than Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, which is still the best S-P WWII FPS game I've ever played, but if by the end it turns out to be even better than that, well that would be something!

I haven't tried it online yet, so I can't tell you about that.

So in a nutshell, is it really worth buying? Well the answer is YES! So go on ahead and get it! hehehehe

I like the fact you brought up Allied Assault, you have very good taste! :P

CoD2 is still a great game for multiplayer purposes and even more in custom servers but just buy it in its physic packgage or you'll have a hell of problems to make multiplayer work in Steam version.

C0D2 was a success for the company because it picked up a ton of new players on consoles that would eventually make Mw1 and 2 what it is today and the franchise.

CoD2 was a failure to most of the original CoD1 pc players.

P.S. I'm not sure if I should say 'most' pc players because I don't know the count. But from what I seen it was a lot.

I was very disappointed in Cod2 coming from Cod1. But then again a lot of people loved it on the console side and some even in the pc zone. To each his own I guess,.

The only real improvement was graphics.

I'm going to have disagree because I just bought cod 1 and 2, but cod 1 looks more crisp. The texturing is crisp and detailing is better, it seems the gun play feels better. Cod 2 looks like low fi vesion on cod 1 but covered with ugly Bump Mapping and detail maps on everything to fool you into thinking it looks better.

COD2 is fun, but COD+UO was the best of COD. I loved COD and UO MP, I enjoyed COD2 MP, COD4 was ok, WaW was ehh, MW2 was WTF, and Blackops was look its UT2004

On competition level CoD2 is the best game i have played.
Proof of that is for example in clanbase it's still the most played CoD game.
