If you are purchasing with the goal of playing immediately you should know that Steam is out of Keys so you cannot play. If you are purchasing to take advantage of the sale and do not need to play immediately than this might be a good deal but if you expect or want to play right away you will be out of luck.

It's a weekend. The odds are low that this will be fixed before Monday.

did it work straight away, or just start working now?

Bought mine yesterday and it's working.
You likely loaded the game yesterday as well, which means Steam automatically retrieved your key prior to the issue anyone who buys the game now faces - namely that there are no more available keys and people are purchasing a locked game until Steam is able to provide keys again.
If you want to try and look for the silver lining... at least you can buy it at the sale price now and play it later. Better than being denied a purchase until after the sale had ended, I suppose.

I just started today it took me through the start process asking for the key which filled in on it's own but no other issues.
Glad I didn't wait till today, I almost waited to check out the demo first and then just looked at all the reviews and just bought it.

I wish I could give my key to someone, you'll regret spending you money on this fail piece of work. You'll chalk it up in comparison to a month of WoW , 15 bucks for a waste of time.

Unbelievable. Still not working 24hrs later. It's the weekend, is not a good excuse for selling a product they do not have. They are still selling it too, nice. Well, chalk it up to one more company that takes money over customer service. If only they new that customer service helps drive sales and gives a product longevity.

Haha, so true. They are definitely not holding up to their side of the bargain. No matter what the small print says.

I would have been just fine with it had Valve indicated at the time of purchase that keys were no longer available and that I could purchase it but may be several days before I could play.
Valve basically cheated and lied like a nice corporate company. I guess it was inevitable.

They didnt lie and cheat, it says on the store page, purchase subject to DRM outages.
Oh wait it doesnt say that after all, I stand corrected.

Well, I bought because it was cheap and I have Black Ops to play so doesn't really bother me but wondered what was going on when I went to try it out :)

They know it won't work. Yet they just let me buy the game and didnt bother to tell me that they ran out of keys (and knew about it) more than 24 hours ago. Not having a warning that you wont be able to play the game immediately (and probably not for a few days) is just not OK.
I'm going to be A LOT more careful about buying games from Steam in the future, and that probably involves buying games from a competitor if they are the same price.

Rumour has it TAGES has gone bankrupt, so any existing games will become non functional, users are advised to ask retailers/suppliers for refunds.
Ive emailed them 3 times and have not received a response, this exceeds my company activation limit, therefore pirates must have taken over their organisation.

Well was just about to purchase this game for myself and my Wifes PC, but figured "Hey go to the forums and double check incase the game has issues specific to STEAM clients and or bad DRM policies."
Enough said i guess, i am instead going to find another place to purchase it, i do not see waiting for keys to be made available after taking my money a good scenario. I have never encountered this kind of debacle before in my decades of purchasing a game also the DRM issue of 3 activations if thats correct should really be reconsidered."
I, for myself, didn't know about the activations limitation and the lack of keys... Before I bought the attractive promo, have been not able to play, and get here. Guess I should read the forums more often, right ?
Anyway, this is not normal and, as a customer, I get no explanations and have to dig it myself. Not fair. Meanwhile, the game is still in the front page and I guess people are still paying for a product they won't be able to use.
Thanks to the users of this forum for keeping me aware, no thanks to the owners of the place.
PS : Still not working.
(maybe I did make some grammar or spelling mistakes, if this is the case I'm sorry for the readers, english is not my own language)

hey there is a work around. There is a Risen Mini-Image out there that if you install a disk image mounter like Daemon Tools. Download the Mini-Image, mount it with the software, and Risen (found in the Steamapps folder) will think you have the disk in your drive. After not having it for over 24hrs I grew frustrated and am now happily playing it (I am in the swamp taking down Brogar).

Ty caldepen. I'm glad a respectable patron stood up to warn future customers. It's truly sad that Steam refuses to do this on their own. But hey, why stop sales they figure. They would rather pack their pockets full of dishonest cash than provide basic customer service.
Weekend or not, Steam is a 24/7 business with 24/7 employees. Do the right thing Steam. Do the right thing.
Thank you again.

I still say it's worth the 15 bucks. As long as steam fixes the key issue. I've been playing mine since like Friday and it's been a lot of fun.
15 bucks is a total steal. If 15 bucks hurts you, don't spend it.. If your like me and 15 bucks looks like toilet paper for the month, then go ahead and buy it.. I mean come on, it's only 15 bucks and the problem will be rectified. Have you ever seen steam not rectify an issue?

Thankfully the work around works and am now able to play, because it is a very good rpg, kind of old school and tough. If you see a bunch of black wolves coming at you get the heck out of there, they will hand you your hat. Also I found a ghoul and that was not good...

Spot on there is a saying: Buyer beware, if it seems to good to be true then it usually is i think is what that saying means.
I have learnt as have many others if you intend to buy a game from steamstore that you should read the forum area for the game in question, nothing i read i take as gospel truth but where there is smoke there is fire also.
Perhaps one day this kind of issue will be sorted but for now, clients themself have to be of an untrusting / skeptical nature sadly unless they get bitten.in order

lol OP im sure most people are reading this thread AFTER purchasing the game and wondering why the hell its not working. it needs to be posted on the Risen "for sale" page, but pretty sure that'd effect sales so Steam wont do that.

This a thousand times.
I am sure that whoever bought the game will get to play it.
I am sure that those who like past gothic games or games similar will get more than 15 bucks worth of video game enjoyment (not hard to do considering all the crappy 30$-60$ games out there)
And if not, just crack it, go online and pirate it if you have to.
And if not, sorry you lost 15$ *blows a kazoo*
