screen blanking out every minute or so.

every minute or thereabouts, my monitor blacks out for a second, the mouse recenters on the screen (as if there's a resolution problem or it's switching res), and then the game comes back. every fifth stutter like that, windows drops back to the desktop, though deathspank is still running. usually i can alt-tab back.

obviously, this is a little frustrating. is anyone else familiar with this problem? i just grabbed deathspank this morning and i'm trawling the forums now for similar experiences and/or fixes.

i'm running deathspank on windows 7 64-bit, on a 2008 Mac Pro under bootcamp. dual-proc quad-core Xeon at 3.2GHz, 4 GB of ram, and an nvidia GeForxe 8800 GT.

is this possibly related to the resolution bug that was recently patched? has steam picked up said patch?

addendum: just installed latest nvidia drivers. problem persists. i'll send this to support@hotheadgames.com and see what happens.

the resolution bug you talk about is fixed even in the steam version and got nothing to do with the problem you describe. it was a problem with an .ini file which the game couldn't "edit" in some cases.

do you use the same resolution for windows and the game or different resolutions?
what resolution are you using?
do you force the refreshrate in the driver settings to a value which your monitor can't handle?

run dxdiag and check if you have some graphic related problems there.

The good news is we have that exact machine in the office with the same setup so we can try it out but it sounds like some sort of background process is running in Windows unrelated to the game that is taking focus.

Tested here on the same hardware and setup--works fine for us and does not exhibit this behavior.

i believe this is a larger issue -- i'm having driver issues where my gpu fan isn't cycling up like it should.

if anyone has any ideas about manual fan control, i'd be much obliged.

tried checking the fan speed -- nope, that wasn't it. gyromancer spins up the fan fine. rivatuner shows that the core temp while running deathspank hovers around 78C, so i'm at a loss. running fallout3 new vegas causes the same problems, so it's not deathspank related. may as well close this thread since it's now clear that it's not a deathspank-related issue.
