Ive bumped my fan speed to 100% with evga precision and forced vsync through nvidia control panel but the game still randomly freezes...and yes I have the latest drivers.

I can't really help but I will say in the past piranha bytes games tend to be jerks. I have have spent quite a long time getting gothic 2 night of the raven to work with a newer system.

But in the end it was worth it. You should try the official site if you want some more support, sure someone else is having the same problem.

Did you try forcing AA off? My game was messed up before I turned them off, I have an ATI card though.

How hot is "hot"? My GTX 295 (Gigabyte) isn't cracking 62 degrees C, and I don't have any special cooling in place. Sure your box doesn't just need a good ole' fashioned dusting?

That being said, I had an EVGA GTX 280 bake itself just last month under normal conditions, so.... might wanna make sure it's not a hardware problem :\

I have dual XFX 5770s and the game gets as high as mid 70s C for the first card and usually upper 60s on the second card. Happens from the first splash screens as well, before I am even playing the game. Arcania does the same exact thing but that game runs even higher sometimes topping 80 C. Not sure if the engine just isn't optimized or what but seems odd, none of the other games I play get into the upper 60s.

It's distracting but so far no issues even after playing for extended sessions of 5 to 6 hours. So yeah if anyone has some tips to get it running cooler would be great, for keeping my sanity.

IIRC, there's a known problem trying to get Risen to play nice with multi-videocard processing. The solution was to turn off one of the cards. Check the Deep Silver forums for confirmation if that's still the case. I may have just been reading a pre-patch tech support thread.

You need to establish that 70C is a problem for that GPU, before chasing down a problem that may not exist. Is it? I have one and hit 70C in any game that maxes it out.

The usual preventatives include:

Opening the case, and blowing out the dust from the fans (case, GPU, CPU, PS) filters (if you have them), cables and surface components.
Route the cables for clear airflow front to back, bottom to top (assuming ATX tower, adjust accordingly).
In a multi-GPU setup, the top card (assuming tower) is going to run hotter since it is in the way of the dissapating heat from the lower GPU. I mention this in case the heat difference was bothering you.
And having two cards is going to create more heat, ambient and otherwise, so you need to be more vigilant with respect to airflow, dust, cable-routing, and card positioning within the system.

Just a note: vsync isn't magic sauce. It doesn't necessarily change the load on the GPU. The card may still be under full load, drawing frame buffers, triple buffers, back-buffers, anti-alias rendering, read-ahead frames, whatever.

I kinda jumped in the thread sorry about that, just didn't want to post a new one since I also have some heat issues. Game runs fine though, so it likely isn't a problem at all except that it worries me, heat kills.

My cards idle at 30 - 32C for the top card and 33 - 35C for the bottom card wanted to add that in. So in theory reaching mid 70s isn't far fetched.

Searching Deep Silver forums doesn't turn up anything for or against multi GPU setups but it wouldn't surprise me if there is an issue. I have heard renaming the EXE to crysis.exe or something helps. Any confirmation?

I had the same problem and did with Gothic 3 as well PB games are well known for this problem. Turn off AA and set everything to low it will not affect anything except the problems.
