question about archers

How can you tell if you're in range for an attack before initiating the attack? Sometimes I'll initiate attack with an archer only to have her take a step or two closer to the enemy before firing.

if your archer can hit someone the enemy will be red, if your archer HAS to move in order to attack someone there will be a "i believe" a blue circle at where the archer has to move in order to attack.

I think the archers have one extra square to hit than holy and cake.
