before they need some kind of boost?

i hook my laptop up to the tv through hdmi and use a wired xbox 360 controller. i would just like to get cables long enough so i dont have to move my laptop right next to the tv.

but they should be able to do 20 feet, which would be long enough for what you need

For USB the maximum cable length is specified as 5 meters (~16 feet) but you can usually go quite a bit further especially for low speed devices such as game controllers.

As for HDMI, that depends on the cable quality and the resolution and refresh rate of the signal. They make them up to 50 feet in length but at those distances you might run into some trouble pushing a 1920x1080 60Hz signal to the other end. Anything under 25 feet should not be a problem with good quality cable though.

Note that good quality does not necessarily mean expensive. You can get reasonably cheap high quality HDMI cables.
