E6600 is the min requirement for this game, might be time to upgrade your CPU, although it wouldnt suprise me even after updating your CPU that the game still runs like ♥♥♥♥, cos it's got heaps of issues.

At random on starting up BO MP the whole PC gets locked up where keyboard is not responsive and only way to fix is to power cycle. It happens twice to me already today. This has never happened prior to the patch and I have put in a good 24 hours into BO MP already.

I was having this same issue (as seen by my previous posts in this thread) and ran across another little thread on the forums with one of those "possible fixes" malarkey. Well.... I thought what would it hurt, and tried it. By doing so, I was able to play for 3 hours straight last night without a single crash. Before I conducted this 'tweak', I was lucky to make it past 4 matches without a lockup. Here's what I did:

Go to config_mp file. open with word pad. Change these values to match what I put below:

seta r_multiGpu "0"
seta r_multithreaded_device "1"

By default the multiGpu was set to 1 and the other to 0. I did a little switcheroo, and no freezes for 3 hours! I got tired of playing before I couldn't even find a crash. My wife was crashing too after about 2 matches. Hers was really bad. Most of the time she couldn't make it through her first match without it locking up. After she tweaked her config the same way I did, she played for an hour straight with me, no crash/freeze/lockup.

I don't know if this all just a fluke, but I do know that I didn't crash at all last night. So I'm happy for now.

My game is stuttering. Looks like i have lags but my ping is normal. FPS drops fom ~80 to 10 every couple of seconds. It feels like that the fps drops are server dependant but i could be wrong...
I'm running Black Ops with he worst graphics settings i can chose from the settings in Black Ops MP menu. (except field of view which i'm having maxed).

Yup, everyone who is freezing should try this..I used to freeze 5 minutes into a game and would have to CTrL, ALT DEL, to get out..After changing the config file, I haven't froze yet!

When im in multyplayer it freezes and my games shuts down a strange console program open. But im not able to open it and read what it says
I have to type: CTRL, ALT Delete, and shut black ops down and sometimes it dosnt save my gamedata (xp in game)

Hahahah this is soo funny, i played like 10 hour overall with BO MP since the release. With Win7 32bit the game shutters like hell. For many other reasons, i switched to 64bit. Now if i want to join into a server, when the map starts loading, the whole game crashes. Honestly, i can't believe this.

Okay, i did that now aswell, but before i reat your post, i tried in-game typing it in the console, and that worked, cause when i look in the document, MultiGpu is at 0 and Multithreaded_device is at 1, so it is a whole lot easier to do it in the console (:

It means your CPU is multi-threaded. Most CPU's are now.

Actually, I may be wrong. You need to check on the Intel or AMD websites to see if your CPU has multi-threading.

Changed my config file with the seta r_multiGpu "0"
seta r_multithreaded_device "1" tweaks, and turned off AA. To my surprise the game hasn't crashed in about 6 hours of play, though it constantly tries to revert to "recommended default system settings".

I'm not sure who they hired to code whatever detects what is best for your system, because last time I checked 1024x768 was the standard in 2005... yet, they also assume that everyone has an SLI setup and isn't using a multicore cpu? Might want to fire that guy.

I sent my report to Activision Support, and they told me to:
1/ Install the latest DirectX 9.0c (which I had already told them I'd done)
2/ Disable all background processes using msconfig - shouldn't have to. The game is broken not my system.
Impatiently waiting what happens next.

another thing to add....it seems cod doesn't recognize how much memory your system may have. seta sys_sysMB <<mine said 1024mb, while i have 3gb on my system.

after changing that and also changing the multithreaded and multigpu after 7 matches it didn't crash.

Just a question.. are these freezes a contributor to the leaderboards looking ♥♥♥♥ed up? My game froze at the end of a few good games so I assume the steam cloud is screwed during synchronisation.

Next thing I know, when I end process and load the game up again, I'm ranked 685 with a ratio of 4.0+ in tdm with only ~130 kills. But my combat record says more than that.

BUT my game runs smooth as butter, no crashes.
BUT I do get crashes and freezez if i set Anisotropic Filtering any higher than NONE in B.O.
BUT I do get my whole PC locking into a freeze when I restart B.O., requiring a forced reboot.

All drivers up to date, still crashed and I have to shut down the game with the taskmanager because blackops.exe is not responding.
I thought the problems would have gone away because I could play like 40 minutes today but then it crashed again.
This problem is solely the "work" of Treyarch but I guess I have to wait a few weeks till a DLC is announced before they start working on BO PC Version again.

crashes anytime I try and play... I may get 2 or 3 rounds in before it does but when it crashes I have to go to the task manager and end the proccess, there are no error messages. Also when it crashes, the graphics look all messed up (mostly a white/grey screen with outlines of the guns and a few other things that was on the screen)

This thread is the proof that even people with superior systems (i7's, 8 gigs ram, 1 gig graphics cards...) are getting crashes, and that it is NOT due to a crappy rig like the trolls enjoy saying every chance they get.

I tried the last two versions of drivers and I still freeze.

Performance-wise, I play great, but it's almost guarenteed to freeze after a while in MP.

Also, the amount of memory it uses shoots up to 1.5 GB when it freezes while it typically uses 1 GB or so.

Same exact memory usage when I crash... 1.5GB.

Really, you too? I just posted 5 minutes ago, it doesn't need a freaking bump.

Now to the actual topic - I changed FOV a little bit, and it wouldn't even load a level, it crashed as soon as the loading screen appeared.

Also somebody mentioned that changing texture from automatic fixed the problem for them. I have had mine on "extra" the entire time and I've crashed probably once every 3 hrs so not as bad as some people, but definitely not a fix.

I would not bump it if i would know Treyarch doing something with this issue. Its here from start - 2 patches no fix, they jsut made it worser. No single word from Treyarch - like we know this issue, we working hard to fix it, expect it in next patch. No single word. i have a amd phenom ii x4 its the 955 clocked at 3.2ghzs im running a 5750 4gbs of ram 500gb harddrive and windows 7. the game just randomly freezes sometimes in the first game i play sometimes it will let me play 2 or 3 most of the time i have to ctrl alt delete and end task but sometimes i get the windows error message and that closes it.

As for myself Mp is unplayable as most, at some point Mostly as soon as i spawn for the first time video will do one of the following
1. Completely freeze. Fix Alt Ctrl Delete end task.

2.At some point in the first 5 min of great play mostly Ive noticed when i get killed the screen looks like (if you've ever done any map editing) looks like the player spawn has dropped 2 or more units into the ground and you can see the skybox around you and sometimes the outlines of 1 or 2 models. Fix Alt Ctrl Delete end task.

3.By far the most rare I've seen 3 times a Clock that fills the entire screen.

Strangest to me is that i can play the combat training for the most part perfect no probs at all for up to 10 rounds then ill get the frozen screen and Fix Alt Ctrl Delete end task.

I had no probs before the patch on the 11th

Well, after thorough testing (i.e., extended playing), I'm fairly convinced this change helped me...no more freezes the last few days:

After testing with 20 different nvidia drivers (from ancient v18x drivers to latest beta v263) and by checking the temperature with GPU-Z - its always the same temperature when the game freezes/crashes.
Even when i just leave the game in menus, after like ~20-30mins it freezes ...
Anyone else noticed this, or is it just me ?
because, i never had overheating problem until now :confused:

Critical temps normally make the atikmdag (ATI) or nvlddmkm (Nvidia) errors appear you will also get a message saying the driver has stopped responding, seems the problem is with the game

It definitely is the problem with the game, but the side-effect is overheating, at least in my case.
Even if i leave the game in menus, it crashes after 30mins-1hr and the GPU temperature is raising all the time until the game freezes.

My problems are not heat oriented. My GPU and CPU both stay at the same levels I see on other games and with other programs. Between all the crashing/freezing (for me every 1-5 games) and create a class being broken I'm so frustrated I just don't want to play the game.

I'm still holding out hope that Treyarch rolls out a patch that will fix the game for us all instead of a patch that fixes it for a select number of people and breaks it for the rest.

Freeze followed by video signal failure, then returns. Soemtimes upon return of video signal, CODBLOPS is no longer responding but everything else is fine. My temps never reach critical levels. Also, I am achieving 100-150 FPS when it is not frozen. Only been happening since the patch. Lovely, an anti-lag patch making my game freeze and crash. How bout just a rollback and we make a new anti-lag patch. Please try to at least be this specific in describing your own "crash/freeze."

Hi,

I had problems where Black Ops would crash on starting of the game. This then moved onto Fallout 3 and even Modern Warfare 2 crashing on start. So I did this..

- removed Steam
- removed all games
- removed gfx card drivers (ATI)
- ran Driver Cleaner Pro to remove other ATI bits left over
- ran CCleaner to clean registry and other bits left over by Steam
- removed all physical folders for Steam/ATI
- reinstalled Steam and both games (MW2 and Black Ops)

Black Ops now works :) and my other games. I had to download over 30GB of games over night, but it was worth it. I haven't played Black Ops yet so I don't know how well it will perform, but the fact it is running is better than crashing on load (with the Windows 7 blue circle freezing on a black screen when starting either SP or MP).

Single player seems to work fine for me, but multiplayer has never worked at all since release.

The game will lock up occasionally on the loading screens (during map change) Sometimes I'm able to play a full round of TDM but as soon as I make a change to controls it locks up or map change.

The main menu will lag spike constantly, as well as searching for a server. (They should really have a stop searching option).

Not sure if this is entirely relevant, but when the game crashes, I try to CTRL+ALT+DEL, sometimes it works but I notice that every program running uses much more resource memory than normal. Other times I get error messages telling me that task manager has failed to open.

the game started crashing yesterday night
i was playing mp and it just crashed and i had to do a restart to my comp, same thing happened today couple of times with the difference that this time only the game crashed and i didnt have to do restart to the comp
before yesterday everything was fine and the game didnt crash once

Im freezing too. I can play 30 seconds max then it freezes... I did all I saw in this forum and what activision said to do... nothing.

I cannot login to mutliplayer at all, it either crashes saying "Connecting.." or it gives me an error saying to try the server again later.

I am running an AMD X4 940 @ 3.0, 4 GB RAM, ATI HD4850 512mb.

I have the same problem. Game freezes, I've noticed sometimes it shows textures flattened out (barrels look like a square etc) but generally turns white. nothing can be done but CTRL + ALT + DELETE,
which i can cancel and puts me back in the game after a brief black screen.
I also tried in "safe mode" and did exactly the same.

1) I got CPU lag at launch
2) Game worked perfectly after first patch
3) After second patch, it still runs smooth (although I got a little bit of the suttering back). However, now the game crashes every 5-15 minutes (Sometimes with 'Fatal Error', other times the screen just freezes and I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL out of the game.

Only ever crash in MP. Happens randomly, in menus, during a match, it doesn't matter. Never happened before patch. No noticeable performance changes.

For me the freezes seem to happen when I would get an achievement progress pop up or post game stats.

The worst (and its happened many times) is when it freezes right as your about to win, cap the flag, etc.

I am getting some serious laggs depending on maps. After some time while I'm playing the game, my game just freezes and I got to kill it trough task menager, that's the only way. I own mw2 too, and I can play it on max settings witout any stutter or lagg. My specs are:

Mines still freezing too. Only ever in multiplayer. If i do get into a game halfway through that game it will crash freeze and I have to open the task manager to close it. Really starting to get to me...

I think I solved my problem of freezing playing multiplayer.

Just deleted the config files in Steam/common/players... path (it is not exactly that so search/google it), checked cache files to got fresh ones and voilá ! It worked. Yesterday played about 2 hours continuosly without random freezes. Before I couldnt even play for 20 mins.

Hope this solution can help somebody... ;)

Im having random CTD's as well im using on the affected computer AMD athon II X2 3,0ghz 4gb RAM and a gigabyte Geforce 220 1gb ddr3(entry level card sort of,but thats irrelevant as the game utilizes the CPU for graphics mostly)

Also I have never had any problems running any other games on this rig before..just one of those strange combinations that you throw together for a cheap buck and it works awsome.

Just had my first crash in a long while. Nothing has changed on my end. The game froze and I had to use the task manager to shut it down. I was getting crashes like this 2-3 times a day for a while but cranked all my graphic settings to full and they had stopped until this one today.

It's obvious after reading through this thread that it has nothing to do with the system people are running. I'm thinking it is more of a Steam issue like some of the problems that Fallout NV had with locking up when it came out. Whatever the issue is they need to do something.

This has got to be the worst problem with any game i have ever experienced in my life. Stupid game freezes ever other game! If they dont fix it soon I am never going to buy anything Treyarch makes ever again. And I own the BEST Desktop Mac you can buy from Apple. Im running Windows 7 on bootcamp.
