CyberPunk7t9 Said;

Trying to gather accurate data from the community this time.

Please take the survey :)

-Kindly take the survey even if you don't have/had any problems in the game.
-If you have AMD Crossfire or NVIDIA SLI setup please type it in Other (Example: HD5870 crossfire).
-Goes for some, please don't pull the funny in this one. The results will be used to help the community.

Thanks and good luck.

Only problem I have with the survey from before is A) There are things missing, like common resolutions such as 1920x1080, and B) Hardware missing, such as the new, and VERY common 6-core AMD CPU's.

Cheers for editing your post to give such lame criticism. Google provide that service, not me. However, if it makes you happy and not wet the bed, i'll look into improving it.

Also, if possible, add more RAM, such as 12, 18, & 24 GB. Some of us haven't run on 8 GB or lower for over 5 years:P

Learn to spell. And why is i3 not in the choices? Also, Intel Core 2 is quads and dual cores, you need to make a separate choice for both. You need more RAM choices also.

Frankly, a ♥♥♥♥ survey.

6-Core AMD does NOT fit with Phenom II. They are dramatically different in performance and are more efficient.

See first post, it is not my survey. I will amend and take idea/improvements forward where possible. I'm already noticing that most people who don't have problems or at least seem to have better performance are on 64-bit operating systems.
Was this mentioned before by the community here?

Is there someone here who has performance problems willing to test for us switching from 32bit to 64bit OS and see how it goes? (Better be an owner of a fairly high-end PC so we make sure it's not hardware limitations)

There should be many more options for the Intel Core2 category. For example, I have a Core2 CPU which is quad core and goes way above the minimum and doesn't lag att all. Then there is this friend I have who also has a Core2 CPU but his is just above the minimum and lags a lot!

Difference is he's got a Core2Duo E6750 while I've got a Core2Quad Q9550.

Should AT LEAST have the possibility to choose between Core2Quad and Core2Duo...

Alright, youve added the stat results from google, which look good. Now for some actual beneficial criticism. You're ♥♥♥♥ing up the stats when you change the damn thing. How do you not realize that? Now my quad cores listed as a intel dual core. Not only did you ruin the CPU stats, you screwed up the ram when you modified those all to hell.

Ok I did the survey. I think it would have been a good idea to include soundcard and versions of graphic card and sound card driver as it seems most problems might be sound related.
So far my own observations seems to be ppl with only 2 cores, together with Realtek sound and ATI graphic card, are the ppl with most problems. Look forward to see the results :)

I was thinking if there is a program that could scan your computer and make a complete report of what is in it and make some logfile of that, that could be uploaded somewhere, together with your comment on how the game is running? Ok I think I might have one. Speccy (http://www.filehippo.com/download_speccy/) seems to be almost perfect, except it don't show graphic and soundcard driver version. Other than that, I think a report from this program would be really helpful.

Think I have one even better now :) SIW (http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html) the freeware version, gives a ton of information about your computer. I don't think it gets any better than this. Now if only OP or someone else, could make a survey combined with ppl making a report from this program and correlate it all together, then we could send the whole shebang to @pcdev and let him take a look at it.

How is it helping me? I dont have a crap computer and the game runs fine for me. Its me helping you and you should respect me. YOU NEED TO VALUE MY INPUT, SIR, AS IVE OBVIOUSLY DONE SOMETHING YOU COULD NOT, BUILD A COMPUTER THAT WORKS.

You have a machine that plays the game fine, that's great - props to ya. I , as a player, need this input so the right people can attempt to fix the thing for people who DON'T have it so good. Im sure I could do many things to replicate you but as many people have stated, in many similar circumstances with sometime identical machines, that it doesn't always work out as well as expected. Your input is appreciated and im sure everyone enjoys your feedback. But lets not GO on a CAPS rage, shall we? Lets all contribute.

Alright, youve added the stat results from google, which look good. Now for some actual beneficial criticism. You're ♥♥♥♥ing up the stats when you change the damn thing. How do you not realize that? NOW WHAT THE HELL WILL THIS ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISH NOW THAT ITS ♥♥♥♥ED?

I understand that if i was to add load of things it would eff the result right up. I think it covers a spectrum of components and hell, its not even my list.

Please see my other post;
See first post, it is not my survey. I will amend and take idea/improvements forward where possible. These issues have only come to light, unfortunately adding this will skew the data somewhat. I did think about the gfx card drivers but surely its only common sense to upgrade to most recent?

Clearly shows that no matter what OS/Hardware your on....its running really badly.

I think Treyarch should maybe shutdown all servers for the PC Version and shutdown the game on Steam and just do a proper release.

Just get the guys at Treyarch to work on the game for 5 working days (normal hours)..i am sure the game will come out better

You have this written at the bottom of your results page.

"cl_maxpackets 100 - maybe 0.0009% improvement."

If you want anybody to take you seriously then don't post stupid statistic percentages like this. And that is such a biased survey it asks questions in such a way that you must answer no. Giving "no" the majority whether I have problems or not (which I dont thankfully).

Let me make it clear to you younger rats...

Some findings from the survey results:

*It seems that most people (including myself) who answered no to all questions about the patches and have no stutter are using windows 7 64-bit.

*Someone mentioned that disabling audio devices made the stutter go, so he used a USB headset. USB headsets have built-in sound card in them so that is a good temporary solution if disabling sound is a fix for you.

*I saw some PC's which must run Crysis on high-settings just fine, Yet their owners reported stutter when playing Black Ops! Hear that Treyarch!

*Some users mentioned that had to spend money on upgrading their CPU's to help with the stutter. Their original CPU's were fast and way above the official recommended specs. Hear that Treyarch!

*Some people mentioned that their fix was to delete the config file in the Player folder. What does this mean?
Wouldn't the game create a fresh new one?

I can assure you that its not a single piece(or many pieces) of hardware or software that is causing the vast amount of problems, its just FAIL CODE, it needs a major patch, and quickly.

Unless you are a software engineer and have the code in front of you with alot of spare time on your hands, you are not going to fix the large amount of issues this game has.

People who edit large amounts of video, people who constantly move large files, people who need to run a large amount of RAM intensive apps at once, and those with more money than sense.

Nice job on this, +rep.

A few observations: In the survey you mention the 11/19 patch, but not the earlier patch. This first patch they released fixed is what fixed all my stuttering issues. I suppose it may be too late to add this to the survey though.

You might have also included a question to have us rate how well the game performs, such as a scale of 1-5 or 1-10 or something.

Also, keep in mind that people who have no problems with the game are less likely to come to the forums than people who do.

This should be stickied considering the volume of issues experienced; just looking at the sales and Steam stats it looks to be over 30% of the people that have bought the game are experiencing issues...

Too bad Steam doesn't use it's resources to track and resolve this sort of thing, but I guess as they're only clearing a few billion $ U.S. annually, they have to be careful...

Completed. 11/19 patch worked great (90 FPS)--two days later it's back to a crap frame rate (20-50 FPS)

Overclocking shouldn't be in the survey. It's totally irrelevent from a dev POV.

VistaSStoned69

good ideal
not the best survey ( i know its not yours)
would of been good if it ask
-did you have issue on the launch date(11-11-10)?
--did the first patch help?
--- 2nd patch ""
----3rd patch""
-----4th patch (11-19-10)

This way we can see the ppl that had no issue at first but then had issue after a patch or have Never had issues Or had issue at first but got fix with the 1st or 2nd patch (like me)... But from the 3 questions the survey is only tailored to ppl who had issues up until this last patch.

some ideals

1#"Did you have problems with performance of COD Black Ops on your computer before the patch/Steam update released on 11/19?"
yes or no

if you say no there should be either 2 different question that follow (other then the ones provided or add in option)

2# >>>Also this question is bias<<<<
"Did the patch/Steam update released on 11/19 fix problems you previously had with performance of the game?"
yes or on
-What if we din`t have issues before the patch on the 19th?
--You could add if you had no issue before the patch N/A ? or what patch help you the most?

3# >>>Also this question is bias<<<
"Did you use to have better performance in the game before the patch?"
yes or on

-What if we din`t have performance issues before the patch? again we have no choice but to answer yes or no..
--- add No change Performance is ok

if anyone wants to elaborate on this with better english skills plz do so lol
Again just some ideal to pass on to the creator of the survey
sorry for the bad english.

well that`s not true, i OC my cpu just lil bit, seamed stable but after 2hrs of play the game froze (first time ever) so OC froze the game, so if ppl are saying they have OC cpu and say that they have issues with the game freezing this could be easy fix. do you understand what i`m trying to say? ...

No game dev is going to notify their customers that they should not OC.

It's called "a given" and volunteering that information is only counterproductive--an OC will either help performance, which in turn puts weight into the performance nubmers of the non-OC'd counterparts where there should be no extra weight, or, it will hinder performance by causing a sort of system instability that no dev can compensate for.

There's no benefit to specifying whether or not you OC. In fact it's a bit irresponsible to OC under what you're all treating as a test environment by complaining about game issues.

Steam has a survey of their users hardware/software: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey

It is worth nothing that 33% of all steam users are using Win7 64, while the number is 63% for those taking the survey.
I think you can assume that most bothering with the survey are having problems.

As for the different surveys, I think you can extract that information if you just feed the results into Access or another database.

Hm, a lot of the problem systems appear to be near the minimum system requirements or lower. How weird.

The majority of people seem to have a c2d, the min. requires an E6600. But the survey doesn't ask for the model number, which means you could be like me, and have an E8400, or you could actually have an E6600.

4GB of memory seems to be the popular option too, which is more than enough.

A lot of results for GTX 460's and AMD/ATI 4870's, though the majority is with "other", which is what I voted, since I have 2x 4870's.

12-14-2010, 08:53 PM
I see some problems with the survey.

Firstly, the there is only "Intel Core 2" for CPUs, there should be C2D AND C2Q.

The overclocking question is useless, a choice between a range of speeds would be better (eg, 2 - 2.5, 2.5 - 3, 3 - 3.5, 3.5 - 4, 4+).
And on top of there is nothing in between "nearly 15%" and "over 25%", what does someone like myself who has a 20% overclock put?

And finally, the survey does not accommodate for player who bought the game after the current patches.
