I was looking for an answer to another problem in the Bitdefender forums and came across a thread regarding Black Ops. A couple of people posted that Black Ops was unplayable but worked after they uninstalled Bitdefender.
BD tech support suggested disabling the "Active Virus Control" (or AVC). Since I've been having nothing but trouble getting Blac Ops to play without stuttering since day one I decided to give it a try. It seems to work (for me at least). Even with a default config file, if I go into Bitdefender (using the expert view) and go to the Antivirus tab, then click the Advanced Settings button, and uncheck the AVC box so that it is NOT enabled the game is playable every time. BTW - disabling AVC does not turn off your AV, it just stops it from scanning running processes.
Before I tried this I would get frame rates ranging from 7-30 fps. Now I get solid 60 with v-sync enabled.
My specs are:
Core2Duo E8400 - 3GHz
4GB Ram
Sapphire Radeon HD 5850 (1GB)
Vista 32 bit, SP2
Unlike a LOT of other threads I am NOT going to say that this will definitely fix your stuttering problem, but it is worth a try if you use Bitdefender and had terrible stuttering like I did. I hope this helps some people.
