View Full Version : [FIX Win7/Vista] Tropico 3 crash on launch with two displays enabled.

There are 3 ways to fix this crash.
You can disabled one of your displays prior to playing. (Windows Key + P)
You disable Aero theme for Tropio3.exe
Play in windowed mode (works with Aero enabled)

Disable Aero for Tropio3.exe
Locate Tropico3.exe (same exe file for Absolute Power) in your installation folder.
..\Steam\steamapps\common\tropico 3\
Right click on Tropico3.exe, click on "Properties". A new window will open.
Click on the "Compatibility" Tab, under Setting check the box "Disable desktop composition".
Click OK to confirm and close.

I was having a slightly different issue but this pointed me in the right direction anyway. Since that program isn't needed however and my issue was slightly different I'm going to make my own thread. +rep anyway.

Dragoon, thanks for the fix suggestions. None of those worked for me.
Apparently something happened to the Tropico program recently (game update? Windows update?). Because I have several hours in playing the game without problem. When I tried to run it recently, it crashed immediately upon launch.

I changed my monitor configuration from extend (my second monitor is my tv) to duplicate setup. This made the game work for me.

I had to turn off my second monitor for the addon to work.

Using that config editor on thet post to run in windowed mode worked for me :)

This worked for me. Thanks for the tip. I renamed my old config.lua and then opened Notepad, copied the Default config.lua (uncompressed)into that file and saved it as config.lua. Easier than getting and running a decompressor :cool:
