you basically pronounce each letter clearly in the first word "Deus". Like.. if you said "The Ews" fairly fast I suppose lol.
"Ex" is just like you say the letter X.

well... pronounce the letter harder... "DE-OUS X"... the sound the E makes is key. Then again, the game is awesome so pronounce it however you wish lol.

And this is only a "how do I get on the boat" away from being planetdeusex forums like 10 years ago.

Dey-uhs eks. Comes from the latin phrase "Deus Ex Machina" or "God out of the machine."

Of course, I wouldn't trust the machines in DX for a deity, you might get lemon-lime.

Go to any present day Catholic Latin speaking church service and you will hear 'Deus' (God) still pronounced as 'day-you-s' but without the 'y' in 'you.'

The ancient Latin speaking Romans loved and wrote many Greek Tragedy style plays (but in Latin of course) where bloody horrific events followed one after another until the play culminated in unspeakable misery for all. Then when everyone in the audience was sufficiently traumatized a god was introduced into the play by lowering the actor down from a crane into the action where the god exercised his supernatural powers to put everything right again so that the audience could go home satisfied and emotionally exhausted from the experience.

In a Roman play the stage direction that noted the entrance of this problem solving god would have read "Deus ex machina."

That phrase became idiomatic in early Latin to mean someone or something suddenly solving a seemingly impossible problem.

As you play the game I think that you will see how apt the title of the game actually is.

Even if you don't I predict that you will still enjoy the game with your own interpretation.

When he says Amadeus minus the "Ama" so wait for the chorus and subtract the ama and you are left with the pronunciation of Deus Ex.

Ja! Ama-deus without the 'Ama' is good. That's a perfect aural example. I often wish there were a Latin google translator with pronunciation. Latin is still in common scientific use but not taught so widely anymore.

Which is the correct way of saying it.

The usage of Billy Bob and Gus have a certain validation today given the continual natural evolution of language and the long period of time that Latin has been a dead language spoken by no natural population. That being the case I can be sympathetic with inventive varieties such as 'Deuce X' and my personal favorites 'Do Sex' and 'Day you sex.'

The Latin of the long lived ancient Roman empire went through a huge change eventually evolving into Italian etc. But throughout that time the Roman Intelligentsia continued to write in the classical form that became unintelligible to their own population late in the life of the empire. The classical form of the language is *probably* best preserved in the Latin used today by the Roman Catholics.

The only aural example of that pronunciation in this thread is given by gtipton55. Perhaps another more direct example can be found and posted by someone.

Edit:
Support for the idea that the thread title is the right question.

Unless you happen to know the how a native latin speaker (hard to find these days) would say it, I don't really see the relevance.
