dunno about iTunes.... mostly cause they'd probably make me charge $10 just for the digital release. But maybe!

I picked it up earlier this month during the smb-a-thon for MS and have really enjoyed listening since. Hard to pick a favorite, bit its hard to beat hot damned and the one before or after it.

It's funny, I've spent $45 toward a game I haven't even preordered yet. :)

Also, you might think this is cool, I sure do!

That's pretty awesome! SMB totally deserves it, with Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World a close second (Although that's largely my personal tastes). Wouldn't really be fair if DJ Hero 2 won...since the music isn't actually original.

And there's no friggin' way SMB wouldn't win Most Challenging or Best Retro Design. There's really no contest there, if you ask me.

Just a question, have you made the music to any other nice game than Super Meat Boy? I really like your style, distorted guitar ftw.

Why would anyone buy musics from a game ?

Search on Youtube and you get them ;(

Because some people actually like to pay for things they like? To support the people who make them?

MAN your work is amazing! This is the best soundtrack I've heard in quite some time.

Hot Damned is the best song I've heard in years.

I will buy it first thing tomorrow morning as I'm a bit to busy to search for my credit card number right now, but this stuff is amazing. You should be hired to do bigger games too (not saying SMB is unimportant, actually it'll probably be my fav indie to date) but man you're so talented.

and 1.99$ is way too low. Paying 10$ for it still doesn't seem to do it justice.

Acegikmo

I've only heard about three songs from SMB, but for $2 it's definitely worth it.
Also, I accidentally bought it in .mp3 format, so I bought it again as .FLAC, since $4 is still worth it

Thanks again for the reception guys! I'll try to answer all the questions here, if I don't get to/miss yours, just tweet at me @dannyBstyle.

There will be a physical version, I doubt I can afford more than a 1,000 press, and even then it would take a long time to sell all those I think. Sometime in December, hopefully before Christmas....

Again, the iTunes thing... I guess at some point I'd be okay with it, it just doesn't sit right with me that Apple would make me sell the music that usually goes for $4 for $10 plus. Just for not having to drag the files into iTunes.

While you certainly can buy the digital soundtrack as many times as you want :) you shouldn't HAVE to to get different formats. If you email support@bandcamp.com they should be able to retrieve your order information and get you the other formats!

If the site with the music is going slow or whatever, unfortunately that's out of my control, since bandcamp.com is their own site, they're just hosting and a point of sale for me! Any problems with the site, again email support@bandcamp.com. They are very nice and awesome and will help you superfast!

I love you all supermuch. Hope you're enjoying the game! I for one love that the music doesn't gap when it loops now :D I'm such a perfectionist....

Tell your friends to get the soundtrack now, the album goes back up to $3.99 tomorrow night!

1,000 is still pretty spare. Is there no potential outlet like CDBaby or some company that offers up an on-demand manufacture setup that would let you keep it in print essentially, as long as you're getting orders?

Quick question. Where in the soundtrack is the music for the level select screens? In game there is 2 per world (one for the light level select and one for the dark) and through listening to some of the previews I can't seem to find them. Are they in there somewhere, and if they aren't, can you provide the music for them?

Having those in the soundtrack as well would be the icing on the cake of a truely brilliant album.

I will likely send an email as well about this, but as its been mentioned the creator is a little slow on email correspondance sometimes! :)

Hey! So, when I was putting together the digital release, I honestly had no idea people would want the menu tracks. Right now the plan is to put them on the physical release with the cut scene scores, unused tracks, additional remixes, etc.

I wanted to have something to add to the physical release to make it "special", ya know? :)

Thanks for the swift reply!

Its good to know that there's at least a plan for the remainder of the tracks that aren't on the digital album. Even without those additions the digi-download is well worth a few quid to me, and its quite likely I will get the physical release also.

How is the work on the physical release going? Any chance it might be ready for Christmas? (Although its quite unlikely it would ship over to the UK in time for the 25th with how slow our post is!)

That sort of alienates people who already spent money on the digital album. They have to buy it all again just for the menu music?

Honestly, IMHO this is the way it should be done. You sell the album online for cheap and the super duper deluxe special edition on CD that has a few extra miscellaneous tracks. For the person mildly interested in someone's music they'll just get the digital version (possibly even make it available for free), but those people that are really loyal and gotta-have-it-all types pay a bit more for the special CD. Those people would have bought both versions anyway.

And honestly, you only paid like $3.99 max. I paid $1.99 myself and don't mind re-purchasing the soundtrack.

I doubt people payed much for the digital version in the first place if half price is $1.99. I know I'd buy the physical release, for the CD, and for the menu music.

I payed the minimum cost with the intention of buying the physical release too, so I'm pretty happy that it will have bonus tracks.

Sorry, I don't know how to change the topic title, but I wanted to let you all know that I put up the "original" Ch5 Dark World music up for free download!
Git it!

It doesnt seem to be free. I see a 'buy now' link instead of 'free download'.

Put 0.00 for the price and the buy link immediately turns into a download link. The box is there for people that want to optionally pay for it. I threw in an extra dollar because I felt guilty for picking the soundtrack up for only $1.99.

When I was putting the digital release together, I had to decide what I was going to put on the album, and what would be on the physical edition. When I added up all the music and it was 97 minutes, I felt pretty comfortable that 4 bucks for all that music was reasonable and fair.

I honestly had no idea anyone would ever want the menu music anyway. But I thought, hey, if I do a physical release, I want it to have cool ♥♥♥♥ for people who are really into it. So I thought, put the menu tracks and the cut scene score, and the unused stuff, and what the hell, more remixes on the second CD.

I'm sorry if you feel deceived that the menu tracks were not on there. I figured since all the tracks were listed, and every single one could be listened to in its entirety for free, that people could make an informed decision on whether or not that tracklist was worth $4. I also tried to make it very clear (all caps in the album description) that there was a physical version coming.

I assure you, this isn't a ploy to try and screw you out of your money. I'm just some dude trying to make a living :)

Haha, well...when I got the digital soundtrack (awesome music by the way, I commend your skills!) I had to look through the tracks a few times because I was wondering where the menu music was. I was pretty happy to hear you mention it would be on the CD.

Just bought the soundtrack - the music in hell's dark world was the track that tipped me over the line of "hey this music is damn good" to "hey, this music is damn good - i'd like to support the person who made it"

awesome soundtrack - although the wait til the file finishes DLing is eased by the fact i can listen to that track on the website :D

This is kinda the crux of my personal opinion on this. 4 bucks (2.53 over here in the UK) for 97 minutes of this kind of quality stuff is amazing value as far as im concerned, no matter what way you slice it.

I think in this case those who are disappointed by the lack of a few tracks have leapt before they looked. All the tracks have where they're from in the game in their name, and of course you can preview them. It was easy enough for me to check them, post here and ask about the tracks that were not in the soundtrack.

Regardless, as I said previously, a couple of quid for what is on the digital edition is a total steal, and I look forward to seeing and listening to the physical edition too. :)

That's all fine and dandy, but I live in Japan and won't be expecting the physical copy to be available without having to pay some sort of huge shipping charge. It's honestly not worth it, and I'll likely find some other means of obtaining the music if it comes to that.

I'm glad that you're so brazen and justified in "if I don't like what you charge, I'll pirate it".

If my music isn't "worth it" enough to you to pay for it, then why should I go about trying to please you?

If you ever come up with some criticism about the album release that is actually constructive, I'd love to hear it.

It's not really even about the price of the actual album. Limiting it to physical copies means that people from other countries can't purchase it without some sort of major shipping charge, if at all.

It's legitimate criticism, and if you can't see that, then there's nothing further I can do to explain it to you. There's no worthwhile reason for you to not release the tracks to a digital release other than. for some strange and baffling reason, wanting to isolate specific areas of the market and simply lose money. If you're in it to make 'an honest living', I don't see why you'd want to lose out on making money. Hell, I'd buy the digital album all over again if it included those tracks.

However, what I'm not going to do is sell a kidney trying to find, locate, and purchase a physical CD that isn't available in my country, especially if it's just to obtain a few tracks.

Really feels like I'm being trolled here, but here we go.

Dude, you really can't just throw out "screw you, I'm just going to pirate it" and then demand to be taken as the end-all be-all consumer.

I don't need you to explain anything to me. I understand what you're saying, and you're either trolling, or incredibly misguided. Special editions of things have exclusive things on them. Next you'll be screaming at Apple for selling episodes of TV shows on iTunes that don't come with the deleted scenes on the DVDs. The album was 4 freaking dollars, at most. $2 on sale. If you are this enraged that it's missing some incidental tracks, when EVERY single track on it was listed clearly beforehand, for you to see EXACTLY what was on the soundtrack, then you are the epitome of the entitled consumer.

I am sorry that I am not a giant corporation that can afford to distribute my album across the world cheaply and efficiently for every person on the planet. Your idea that I am trying to "corner a market" or whatever crazy conspiracy theory that was is hilarious, but incredibly mistaken. Funding this CD printing is going to be very costly for me, and I've no idea if I'm going to make my investment back.

I wanted people to have something special for buying a special edition. You would like me to NOT do that, so that YOU personally can benefit. You are the *first* person to give me any kind of crap about this whatsoever, and I have received tons of correspondence from many different nations.

Sounds like you have a problem with living in Japan, and not with me.

If you want any further response, feel free to email me directly. I gave you a very earnest and direct reply, and you're just kind of being a ♥♥♥♥. Proof positive some people can never be pleased.

TL;DR - Don't threaten piracy for not getting exactly what you want, then expect to be taken seriously.

Nobody said 'pirate' but you. Nice job on derailing the argument, though.

I am sorry that I am not a giant corporation that can afford to distribute my album across the world cheaply and efficiently for every person on the planet.

Releasing something digitally, which you've already done, is not expensive. What are you even talking about?

Your idea that I am trying to "corner a market" or whatever crazy conspiracy theory that was is hilarious, but incredibly mistaken. Funding this CD printing is going to be very costly for me, and I've no idea if I'm going to make my investment back.

Who said anything about cornering a market? Are you even reading my posts at all? You keep quoting things that I never said. How strange.

Why are you funding CD printing if you aren't even sure of a worthwhile investment? And at the same time, you argue that you're just trying to make a living? Seems rather contradictory.

I wanted people to have something special for buying a special edition. You would like me to NOT do that, so that YOU personally can benefit.

I'm asking you to make it available online for the same or similar price. I'm not asking you to mail it to my house.

It would still be a special edition; it just wouldn't be a physical copy. Like I've stated before, availability is much more of an issue than price.

Sounds like you have a problem with living in Japan, and not with me.

Nice assumption.

If you want any further response, feel free to email me directly. I gave you a very earnest and direct reply, and you're just kind of being a ♥♥♥♥. Proof positive some people can never be pleased.
