Seriously pissed off now, not at the devs of this wonderfull game, but at steam.

First time "fine was a mistake" so i played up to lvl 8 again, and now after steam updated it again to what seems pre-patch i now lost my savestate again.

Really sick and tired of this.
Again blaming steam for being idiots.

this is clearly incompetence from steam's side.
No excuse is usable here.

I have no idea whose fault it is, but I'm certainly not happy. I was hoping to beat the game and put it to rest since I think it has some pretty fundamental flaws, but I can't start from level 1 every time. Yes, I know I could simply unlock everything through the menu.

Same...
First time i was fine and shrugged it off as an error, but to revert everything they just made it so everyones savegames are now gone.
That's BS and very incompetent.

Actually it didn't patch my game to 2.06 either. It just "updated" and wiped my saves... really not so amusing. But then again. Steam has had troubles with everything basically. Friendlist, storefront, game downloads and obviously cloud as well. Today's probably their "crashday". :/

I backed mine up this time. . .

Will it work if I try to restore it?

Answer is yes. . .Backup works. . .

Does anyone want my User.Setting file?
It wont' be "your" save file, but I did make it through main game. . . just not any of the dark levels yet

You don't really have to complain, the devs DID recommend people to stop playing version 2.06 until it is fixed in these very forums. It comes to me as no surprise that for the time being they reverted back to 2.05 until a proper solution is found.

May I recommend that people prevent Steam from updating their Eufloria until we hear that the issue has been resolved?

May I recommend that the developer TESTS HIS FREAKING CODE before deploying it. It was ridiculous the first time. I wouldn't be surprised if it was malicious this time.

CRAPPY!

How is this clearly Steam? Explain that to me. This game is NOT using the Steam Cloud. This is the developer. You notice he doesn't even grace these threads with a reply?

He doesn't give a crap about his users. Not the way I would expect an indie developer to act. This behavior I would expect out of Ubisoft...

Both of the developers are active in these threads. The issue arose from the user.settings file being overwritten when Steam updated users to 2.06. The second time was caused by a quick rollback to 2.05 to try and fix the problem. It's not a problem with the code, or Steam, or the developers. The problem is being addressed, and the developers are trying to resolve it as quickly as possible.

You must be blind or just have read the first thread you saw, the devs have been around to try to fix this, they have posted countless times in many of them and there is there's even a sticky where they report on how things are going...

A) I'm not blind. I saw that the game updated (and by saw, I mean gazed upon the screen with my eyes), and I opened it to see if the saves got screwed again.

B) The developer waited until 3:30am to post on a thread that had been created at 6:30pm. So no, I didn't see it.

C) Yes, I was pissed and replied on the first thread that I saw.

Now... about my original question. Or maybe you didn't bother to read the post before you acted like a sycophant.

How is this clearly Steam? Explain that to me.

Not a problem with the code, Steam, or the developers you say? Really? You think it broke itself by magic? I'm guessing you don't develop software.

Yes, I see that they acknowledged the issue this morning at around 3:30am. Sorry if I didn't bother to search back when I saw that my time had been wasted a 2nd time in as many days. I was (and am) ticked off about it.

I'm saying that the problem is not rooted in Steam, the developers, or the code. It was an issue with a file accidentally or erroneously ending up in the Steam's games repository. That was the problem. There is no blame to go around.

The initial issue appears to have been caused by Steam erroneously including the initial (ie, blank) saves and settings file into the update. I don't have a problem with putting that one on Steam, as the developer said they didn't include that file in the update, no reason not to believe them.

The second one probably has to go on the developers, as they asked for the rollback, and that was one of the files in the initial patch, so another wipe was predictable. However, that one only wiped a day's progress, and with the circumstances, the logical course wasn't to build back a big save with no backup.

The game has two developers, at least one of which appears to be in college, so this isn't a full time job. You can't expect them to devote 24/7 to this; they've been on a lot with info and progress updates as it is. Compare their response to Popcap with Plants vs. Zombies, which has been eating bigger, more important saves ever since it went on Steam Cloud. It's still consuming saves on a semi-regular basis, and Popcap has barely said anything, and aren't trying to restore saves at all. I think your anger is misguided here.

Easy now. I was not suggesting that it is our fault that our saves were lost, or that this was not a major mistake, or that they should be forgiven. I was not making any judgments about anything.

What I was suggesting was a small step which will at least prevent you from this - albeit annoying - problem.

Please do not blow up in my face for trying to help.

Bad timing to finally try this game out.
Losing the save game twice really sucks. Was much farther the second time.

The developers have been pretty communicative on any problems, so I'm inclined not to get too bent out of shape about it. They're doing their best, and much better than I've seen from much larger organisations. Since buying it I've played 14 hours and enjoyed it, and it cost me a dollar :P I'm happy with that.

Ive Made Mistakes Like This...

I don't make games, but I certainly have gone to publish software only to find out that it did something horrible after I tested it. Usually the problem is the lack of 3rd party testers, and you need more then one of them. But that costs Money and Resources. This is an Indie game, I am certain they do not have 20 or so Beta testers to test an update.

It really sucks, the new game is faster and harder but loosing 16 levels sets you back hard:(

Im not providing excuses, we paid money for this and we should not have to deal with this... but I can relate. Its just this time Im the angry customer.

First time it happened I had only played the first few levels and didn't really mind. Now second time I had played the game a lot further so decided to just uninstall the game and forget about it.

Thanks for understanding, Fertilizer, Evermourn, and others.

V.P. - Sorry to hear this has put you off, I totally understand though. Hopefully one day you will reinstall and play through to the end.

Got the game in the indie pack during the sales. Only got to level 8...but wandering if save files will be restored or if I should do them again...or wait til a patch is released before redoing them?

The best plan is to back up your save files as explained in the thread that covers that subject and wait until the next update has been implemented. :-)
