Is there an easy way to select multiple ships in X-com Apoc?

Last I remember from playing the game (long time ago), you can only pick one ship and give it an order rather than multiple ships and give them orders? I remember using hoverbikes only to attack but it was real damn annoying each time the aliens appeared to select all of them and give them attack orders.
