I wonder how targets are chosen by ship's AI.
In one battle where my opponent standing still frigates with ion lasers. The idea was to put against it on single frigate with long range missiles, setting attack range to missile's max distance.
Surprisingly enough my frigate was firing at every reachable opponent in random order instead of concentrating on one. My guess is that "vulture" option would fix the problem, but still - how targets are being chosen bu individual ships?

"Random order round robin" makes no sense at all. I can not imagine a situation when it could be useful. Or not harmful, at least.

Oh, even better, after destroying closest frig in line, my frig moved to reach opponent's farthest frig in line, while having 10 frigs in range, risking to become reachable for their weapons. Could somebody explain to me - why?!

A combination of the ships captain taking action (natural AI) and target priorities. I am not entirely sure why it would try to reach the farthest one, maybe other ships were shooting it and it was attempting to concentrate fire? The furthest one was damaged and it attempted to finish it off? I do not set too many commands on my ships so I am unsure if a certain combination would change their targeting drastically.

No, enemy ships were unable to reach me, farthest one had 100% health, while closer ships were damaged.
