I've got Windows 7 x64/Intel Core i7 920/12GB RAM/8600GT SLI. I can run BC2 for about 10 minutes before it completely locks up and even ctl+alt+del doesn't do anything. It requires a hard reset. My graphics drivers are the latest version, I've tried with and without SLI, and my GPU peaks at 71C. Any help would be appreciated.

my Win 7 x64 i7-720 (laptop) does that every great once in awhile too. but i think it's the heat.

Oh and forgot to add that there's a buzzing noise when it happens.

from the speakers or the graphics card?

Is your CPU overclocked? What temps are you getting on it?
Side note: Why such low end graphics with an otherwise decent PC?

From the speakers or headset.

It's stock clocked. I'll check the temp. And I plan on investing in a 570 in a couple of weeks.

you get any stripes across the screen, or just black?
edit: nvm.

The current frame just freezes and stays there.

What sound card/onboard sound do you have?

Some Realtek thing. Do you need the exact model?

Doesn't really matter which model, there is a persistent problem with Realtek HD Audio Drivers + BC2 + Punkbuster.
Nothing really seems to permanently solve it except uninstalling the Realtek drivers or playing on servers without punkbuster if this turns out to be your issue.

Oh wonderful. I suppose there's no fix?

You can try updating your Realtek drivers and this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16571543&postcount=1
First you need to see if it is the drivers though by disabling them.

I use my Realtek audio (Gigabyte motherboard), with absolutely no freezing. I would not be so sure that's the problem.
To be honest, that total freezing you're describing sounds a lot like a RAM problem. I mean you've got 12GB?!? That's kind of absurd... Are you absolutely certain that your RAM timings / voltage are correct? Many motherboards don't support 12GB of RAM, especially if you're trying to run it @ 1600MHz. I would check with your RAM manufacturer to see what the recommended timings and voltage are for your setup. If you insist on running 12GB, you might want to dial it back to 1333, you won't even notice a difference.
I had a very similar problem, though it happened both in and out of games, and all I had to do was change my RAM timings and add 0.125 to the NB. No problems since.

Download a copy of Prime95 and do a test to see how your system stability is. Make sure you have temp monitoring stuff like hwmonitor/everest and so on..
If Prime95 runs successfully for 1/2hr to 1hr, that means that there shouldnt be anything wrong with your cpu/ram (timings,voltages..)
Then get a copy of atitool/furmark and run that to see if the video cards can run with stable temps under 100% load.

Are you sure you are using Realtek HD and not Realtek AC'97? AC'97 has no problems.
The issue with the Realtek HD Audio drivers has been discussed for ages on the electronic arts boards and it isn't due to any other hardware as the game runs fine with sound disabled or by avoiding punkbuster servers.
12GB of ram isn't particularly high on a x58 Motherboard where 6GB is the standard.

Since last patch i had a problem that lock/freeze the game in about 30 min of play.
So after a google research i found some people saying if you force the directx version in the config file it solves the prob. And yes, the problem disapeared changing from "auto" to 9.
Most people have directx 11 already on their windows 7 but what they dont mind is that most vid boards dont support dx11 yet, the game setting in "auto" try to get from windows config i guess.

the realtek hd is the culprit, not ram. and disabling sound makes bc2 run smooth as butter for me. not being deaf i kinda miss the sound though.

one thing that has seemed to help me is to turn the quality of the sound down, if you go to all your sound settings you will probably find that its at the 24 bit 48000hz range turn it down to a smaller hz and or down to the 16 bit range
