Dark Forces II Crashes on Menu Select

Hi all, I bought Dark Forces II earlier and am trying to play it, however I suffer from random crashes when trying to use menu options. The game will crash about 50% of the time when trying to either save the game, or return to the game from the menu. I also have an issue when after I die and respawn or go into the game after booting the first time, the colors will be all screwed up, and only after I get shot do they revert to what they should be.

Hm, I just discovered that it seems to be activated by time...if I stay in the menu for longer than a certain amount of time (I don't know how long exactly) it'll crash when I try to return to the game.
