FOR THE PC, thats on steam

but not FEAR 1, 2 or rebon, penumbra, amnesia, cryosnoresis, dead space, resident evil, (l4d?), doom 3, prey, bioshock 1 or 2, system shock 1 or 2, alone in the dark, metro2033, alien vs pred (all 3) as ive either already got them or played them.

I will give reps for games that look good.

Other than the aforementioned Call of Cthulhu, I guess you could try the STALKER series. It's not what I'd call "horror", per se, but it's weird enough that it may barely qualify ;)

Minecraft! this, for a simplistic game with cutsie visuals, creepers are possibly the most frightening thing ever, and i'm pretty sure i have nightmares about them... "Not the house, anything but the house!"

The FEAR Series had a little frights. Minecraft can be scary some how.

I second STALKER.

Although it isn't a horror game, it nails the atmosphere and that atmosphere can lead to some scary moments. It's a SystemShock meets Fallout kinda thing.
Either Shadow-o-Chernobyl or Call-o-Pripyat are great fun.

Also, there's could be mods for existing games you already own. I know there's NightMare House 2 for the source engine. Could be a few others. Though by the looks of things, you've mostly already played every big horror game out there. =/

(Why are people naming games that have already been excluded in the original post?)

Also STALKER.

I may have a list from the "fright pack" if The Path or Void is scary.

Scariest game EVER.

Seconded. How this thread got so far before this game was mentioned boggles the mind. Most of the games mentioned arent even scary. But Amnesia will make you crap your pants.

Call of Cthulhu has some great horror moments, as do Vampire Bloodlines and the Thief series (the Thief trilogy is *extremely* creepy at times), but I'd definitely suggest STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl or Call of Pripyat first, especially since you seem to like shooters.

They both have an amazingly unsettling atmosphere to them. Plus zombies, poltergeists and invisible bloodsuckers.

No games on PC are scary. Just jumping moments. If you really want to feel the chill flowing down your spine, I say go for console.

Try fatal frame series.
Especially second one, at night with your speakers cranked up to the max.

PS2 emulator won't display the transparant effects correctly, so I say only console (PS2, XBOX) could do you a good scare.

If you can find a copy of Clive Barker's Undying, and if you can get it to run on a modern system, I would highly suggest that one. It came out in 2001, but I haven't played a game yet that has freaked me out as much as Undying did.

On my PC it won't support 32bit mode.
I mean the game works without any troubles, just in 16 bit mode.

The OP said "good looking games" as well, nes'pa?

Have you ever played Amnesia? Im pretty sure it has little to no "Monster-hiding-in-closet-then-jumps-out-cheap-scare" parts.

I have been a fan of horror games all my life.

I must say that you play Resident Evil 4 for PC. You can also install the graphic mod etc makes it look like a modern game. Replaces all the PS2 fuzzy textures with modern textures etc.

Resident Evil 4 was originally released for Game Cube and then ported to Play Station 2 ands then on the PC

Actually, I've played all the Fictional games. Penumber? Bought at the first release. Amnesia? Also bought at the first release.

None of them gave me mentally scary moment.

It ain't Crysis, but it looks fine for its age. Don't be so picky.

The scariest game I ever played was the asylum level of Thief 3. The rest of the game isn't scary at all, but that one level is super creepy.

Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl... graphics are good, It's open-world, lots of freedom on choosing your equipment (weapons, health, food, protection...), It has some very scary parts, like you get used to travel outside, see the sky and suddenly you get into a dark and creepy basment alone...

geronimo789

I'm going to recommend Clive Barker's Jericho. It's more of an in-your-face approach of horror then for example penumbra and has lots of gore.

I have never played it TBH, but necrovision seems kind of a horror game ? Killing floor is quite good too.

Oh and look up the indie fright pack if you haven't already :) 5 games for 4,50.

I'll be danged, last poster took two of mine! ;)

Yes, killing floor. Not really plot-ful, but if u read the little background texts + look carefully at the details in maps, etc., just immerse yourself in the game, it sets a nice, desolate, "horror" mood. The helicopter drops you off, and u are on your own for a while, come what may! ;)

Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl, also. Most of that game is not "horror", per se, but it's just so dang alien that it's very engrossing. And parts of it are kinda horror-ey, too. Here comes that word again: "desolate".

Half-Life has some horror moments.
And if you have a sourcegame (or, I think it requires Half-Life 2: Episode 2) you can download nightmare house, a mod to the game.

Metro 2033!
I bought it 2 or 3 weaks ago for 7.50 Euro on a steam Sale!
It's freakin awesome and much better than F.E.A.R. 1 in my opinion.

edit: fail for me, you already played that game.

L4D is purely for multiplayer (VERSUS). Not really a horror game. Don't buy it if you dont want to play in Versus.
