So.
Are the controls like from Sam&Max season 3? The same as Monkey Islands? The 3d controls, where you can use the arrow keys to move around?

Or, is it the old point and click system, like Sam&Max seasons 1-2?

Thanks.

You can use directional keys to move, yes, and shift to run.

You can just use the mouse too.

They are never, ever going to use straight point and click controls again. You might as well get over it.

is there gamepad support, like in monkey island?

You can also use mouse to move about. Just click and hold, then drag in the direction you want Marty to move. To run, just right-click while moving.

Admittedly though, I also would've preferred a little less moving around and a lot more point-and-clicking.

An ironic comment from someone with your name, but I gotta agree.

I hated fighting with the controls in TOMI and Sam & Max Season 3. Walking around and going through menus is such a pain. By making a cross-platform interface they completely ruined the PC experience.

I've been one of Telltale's most loyal customers but I think I'm done with their adventure games. More Larry Laffer, less Larry Lovage, please.

Get over it?
Why do I need to get over it?

I am not buying the game.

What is there to get over?

Fraking troll.

You can use shift to run? ♥♥♥♥ me, I've been walking everywhere for like 4 of telltale episodes.

Well I know shift applies to BTTF, but I haven't played similar TellTale games yet (like the 3rd season of Sam & Max). So I don't know if that works there.

But yeah, not being able to run around the town center would take so freaking long... lol

I'm a big fan of point-click interface as well but I don't see why it would be a game breaker not having it. You can still play the game with just mouse if you want to and if its like sam and max 3rd season you can still click on items of interest to move. Personally I throught the whole point of adventure games is getting a story to play out with some user interaction, whether that be via point and click or not.

TLDR

I wouldn't ignore a game just because it isn't the exact controls I'm used to.

It went backwards. In Sam and Max you can choose which controls you want, in this one there's no click to move even though when you click on an item Marty will move. It boggles my mind they went to the trouble to take out click to move.

The hold down left mouse button movement is for touch based interfaces.

I find it very odd that something like this is all it takes to be a deal breaker for some people.

Being forced to use the keyboard every once in a while (which from the sounds of it might not be ever at any point in this game) seems extremely trivial to me.

Your not buying it because the controls aren't point and click....
wut?

I found the controls to be rather bad. I tried using every possible control option (keyboard, mouse, 360 controller). The game is still playable, but the rating of the game took a dive from me by a few points based on this alone.

Yep.
Not buying it because of the controls.
Why is that such a big deal to people?

I didnt slam TT for NOT making it point and click.
I didnt slam the game for NOT having point and click.
I didnt slam anyone who doesnt mind the controls the way they are.
I didnt say for anyone else to NOT buy the game because of it.

I asked a question, someone answered, I thanked them (and gave them rep), and stated that I wasnt go to buy it.

I do have the free voucher for ep 1, and will download and play it in feb, just to see if the controls have improved to the point I dont get frustrated.

But, for now, I am not going to buy it.

Well at least it sounds like either way you'll get to play the first ep.

The story is cool, and the price is right given that you get all the episodes. For me, I just have to look passed the control scheme and enjoy what the game does have to offer. Granted it bugs me, but not enough to pass up on a sequel to one of my favorite movies. :) Having finished this episode now myself, I give the game a 8/10.
(Bringing in Bob Gale for the story definitely won me over)
